I'm new to the site, and just kinda dippin' my toes into the pond. I'm looking to find 'diet' buddies, people to be an encouragement to not only myself but to others around them.

You'll find plenty of buddies here, DWirey. But if you don't already know this…this is not a "diet" in the classic sense. You don't ever get off it, as you would with a "diet." This is an entire lifestyle chnge, and it is permanent.

That said, if you wish, I would be happy to be a "lifestyle buddy" for you if you like.

I am, myself, recently diagnosed Type 2 - about 3 months ago…and in that time I hav gone from a 304-pound couch potato to a 265-pound active person that logs 2 - 2 1/2 miles of walking EVERY DAY now, and who generally eats around 1500-1700 calories a day, and always shoots for under 100 grams of carbs per day.

I was HORRIFIED to learn what was in some of the stuff I was eating before…and the portions that were just out of control.

This is a learning curve for all of us, and I still make my mistakes and have my bad days…as we all do here.

Welcome to our community…as it were, since this is a community none of us really would LIKE to belong to (in that we all would rather not have diabtes) but this is a good place. If I must have diabetes, I find it is a little easier if I have this place, and some fellow diabetic friends to talk with…get information and ideas from, and etc. You're among friends here.

At one time or another, we were all new to the site. As for being your diet buddies, we are all that and more. We are encouraging, informative, interesting, knowledgable, friendly, kind, and sometimes funny. Hope you enjoy being with us.

I was told one time that the way to succeed at anything is to only do it for today! When you quit smoking you only do it for one day at a time.. the same went with me in my weight loss goals..I only dieted for one day at a time..that is today.. by the time tomorrow gets here it becomes you gotta do it all over again.. Don't know if it will help you but it worked for me!

Love the TODAY idea. Makes it much easier to accomplish. Thanks for this advice.

This is similar to what they tell you in AA and Alanon groups. Havng been a lifetime resident of the former, I can say that that approach is hard sometimes, but it usually works, and it's good to have friends in your same situation who will catch you if you fall. And in time, you will also be ready to catch your friends when they fall.

We all do. The important thing to remember, when that happens…is that tomrrow is another day…and not to dwell on a temporary setback.

Howdy Diane
and WELCOME to DC!

I second MAYS' sentiments about this site. I am addicted to it becuse of all the wonderful people and the information here.

I pray that you find what you are looking for, the "diet buddies" and so much more.

Truth be told, I definitely could use to lose a few pounds. .I wouldn't know how to proceed, though.

Anyway, I am glad you're here, and hope to see you around the discussion boards.

Blessings toi you and yours

Not to mention the many unique challenges we diabetic face in Modern American Society. I don't need to expound upon those challenges here, we all know what they are.
