I'm reading Amy's article on Glucerna (http://www.diabetesmine.com/2008/07/what-is-g...) and one of the lines about it's original use for tube feeding and a lot of people live off this drink makes me wonder if anyone does just that.

I see a lot of you use it regularly for meal replacements, diets or as part of meal, but is anyone living off it alone?

I'm not saying I'd even want to try to do that, but it got me curious if anyone was doing that… and if so, why?

I have tried Glucerna shakes for breakfast and lunch for 2 weeks now. The first week I drinked the snack ones which I didn't realize there was a difference until now but when I tested it would always be high. I like the taste of the chocolate but if it is going to make my blood sugar stay elevated I don't want to drink them.

i finally tried them and love it. strawberry is much better than vanilla, but i haven't tried chocolate.

i've been doing a slim-fast like diet… shake for breakfast and lunch then having a decent dinner. I've been easily taking off 1-2lbs per day! And my glucose readings are back to normal (80-95)

Welcome to DC! I have had them a couple of times. I would
not want them for three meals a day. Yes they can be used with feeding tubes and are in the hospice department of the
hospital that i worked in before retirement.

My mom RIP was bedridden due to varios strokes, she was diabetic and had alzheimer's disease…Well she couldn't swallow anymore because of brain damage and had a gastric tube inserted directly in her abdomen, her only nutrition source was glucerna and she was doing ok until she had another stroke and her body could not digest it (don't know why) she would get bloated and vomit all the time so they had to change her nutrition to a pre-digested shake called vital which was not for diabetics…we had to adjust her insulin…well she lived 5 years like that with only that shake as a source of nutrition 4 times a day.

Never tried them, so no help from me. Welcome to the site. You will get some answers, be patient and they will start rolling in.

I believe I sampled them before, but I haven't really drank one either. However, I do love shakes and powder drinks… I'm not sure why, I just do!

Thanks for the welcome, Jim!
