I was reading on here today, as I find myself doing everyday now, and something occured to me; even though I initially joined this site to meet with other diabetics, everyone here actually makes me forget that I am diabetic and it is only reading through the posts that the D word jumps out at me and reminds me why I am here! I found this incredible at first but realize that I feel so at home here and so accepted and "normal"! Without getting completely sappy, I just wanted to thank everyone for making me feel good about myself here when so many people have made me feel bad outside of here!!! This is the antithesis of the popular Piss 'n' Moan thread; what makes you happy 'n' content?

I agree. It really feels like family and I am so happy that we can discuss other life issues besides diabetes, although that is very important. I love everyone here.

I found this site over a year ago when I moved to Texas and started a new job. It has been very inspirational to see others who were diagnosed many years ago, and have the strength and courage to endure the hardship of diabetes. I was diagnosed in 2005, and have been stable for quite some time (praise God!). I have acquired additional exercise equipment, and have a wellness coach that works with me each month. I really enjoy the recipes that are suitable for me…it makes it seem like the illness has separated itself from me…and I don't crave the sugar anymore.

Hey Fred! Glad you could make it! Keep up the good work and Fight the Good Fight everday! I have been T1 for 30 years (since I was 12) and honestly can't remember what it was like NOT to be diabetic! LOL It has been my cross to bear but I know God in His infinite wisdom used it to make me the person I am and this gives me the strength to go on! Lots of Love, Renee :)

I think God gives each of us our little thorn in the flesh to keep us humble. And, believe me he keeps me very humble. LOL

It is important to thank God for your health. After all, He is the author of it. LOL I am so glad that we are not in control of the things in our lives because if we were, we would be in big trouble.

Birdy, you are one of the few non-diabetics I have ever known that was willing to immerse themselves in our struggles and you do it with such humor and grace! We all love you! Renee :)

I fell the same exact way. Ijust love this site, I would really be loss without it. It puts me in a much better place mind wise and it helps to give me the courage I need to face every day. Its just nice having everyone here as that safety blanket. Thats a really good feeling.

dietcherry 2010-02-12 09:32:11 -0600 Report

Hinzboy, I never knew the depth of loneliness I felt not knowing other diabetics; I just buried those feelings. It is such a relief to talk to all of you daily and I wonder what I ever did without ya before!!! Renee :)

Thanks for starting this post, Renee. I'm a relative newbie to the site - like Danni and others - and feel blessed to have found it. I've never joined an online community before - I came looking for information about one of my meds and have been here ever since. There's not anybody in my usual life who really KNOWS about diabetes, so this site has been a Godsend. Wonderful people struggling and surviving. You all are an inspiration. Daily. So thank you all!

dietcherry 2010-02-12 09:24:31 -0600 Report

Exactly, Pam! There isn't anyone else in my life that just "gets" it and I am constantly having to explain my diabetes to others-even those who have known me for years! I feel so incredibly blessed to have met everyone here and the joy each and every one of you bring to my life! Renee :)

All of you guys have really helped me to mature, FINALLY!!—at 77 yrs—stand up for myself, as I know if I get too beaten down and I can just come on here, and visit with my FRIENDS that "get it"!! Most of my life I have felt like an outsider, but HERE, it is the best group therapy, for diabetis and other ailements—food suggestions, and a work in learning to communicate with others and try to not step on someone else's toes!! And that takes practice, and here is the only place I dare to keep trying!! Thank you ALL so MUCh!! You have literally "Saved my Life!" Pat R

The best thing about this is that there are people here who have the same health issues as me and can completely understand where I am coming from. I am not even expected to have a great memory! Wow!

I used to feel so lonely and left out, but since I found my family here this has changed, like I said once in another thread, we have a very SWEET family here and I love you all and anticipate the time when I come "home" to you and read all your stories, funny ones, sad ones, instructive ones and supportive ones, sometimes I don't write anything but I'm with you with all my heart reading, laughing, crying and sharing your feelings…Love you all..Hugs…LISA

MAYS, I think we all feel good when we can do something to help another human being; it might just be a small thing, but we never know when some comment, or a tid bit of information will be something that someone needs to hear to make their life a little better, and give them some hope and encouragement!! I know it helps me…

I feel the same way. Like I said in an earlier thread, since I have been coming to this site I have been doing alot better, physically and emotionally. You all have encouraged me to take care of myself and I have support here, unlike anywhere else.

dietcherry 2010-02-11 15:49:12 -0600 Report

Danni, you have really bloomed here! I have to remind myself that you are a newbie to the site because you just jumped in with both feet and endeared yourself to everyone! :)

Danni-the-diabetic 2010-02-11 22:44:41 -0600 Report

Thanks. Usually I am not like that, I am more of the quiet type, until I get to know people, or get familiar with them (offline and online). It is good that I felt like I could "talk" here and share stories and speak my mind. Everyone seems to be welcoming and friendly, you all are awesome, it is like a family here. I have grown quit attached to DC, lol it's not so much about facebook anymore.

Roy531 2010-02-11 15:31:42 -0600 Report

DietC, I haven't been coming to this site that long but you was reading my mind. I was thinking should start something about what I like about this site. I have never enjoyed something as much as I have coming here and readuing and committing. It is a real joy to talk to all of you people and to be able to be open about things that nobody here at work or at home understand. Thank you for starting this. May add more later but time to go home now eat then go to the hospital. Ok, I'm back. I have been to site before that was suppose to be for support and learned pretty quick that was not always the case, and if you said something about it they got very rude and more or less telling me if I didn't like it leave which I did. But I have gotten a whole lot more out of this site than any site I have been to and after being dianosed I went to a lot of them trying to get answers. I have found out that if you have a question about something, here you can get an answer or they can give you a link to a web site that can answer your question. Love all you guys and hope we can stay as lovable and kind as we are now.

dietcherry 2010-02-11 15:44:07 -0600 Report

Amen, Roy! Nothing feels as good as others just "getting" us and not judging, fearing, avoiding, etc. We are all different but alike and this site has really driven that home for me!!! :)

dietcherry 2010-02-11 23:20:05 -0600 Report

To me, this site is really just like a family: there are elders here who lead and educate, the newer members who come in everyday and are like newborns to the family, and then all the relatives who may only check in occasionally but never stray too far. And just like a real family, we do rub each other the wrong way at times, but we still pull together for the Cause! LOL
