UPDATE (2/12/10):

I have ordered the proof (first copy) of my book from amazon.com, but it will not arrive until Feb 22. I sent amazon a revised PDF with upgraded pics (300 dpi). Barbra, my friend in Michigan, is doing all my computer work.

Amazon is not charging me anything up front, but it is progressing at a snail's pace. There are so many steps involved when publishing! I guess I can wait while knowing it is going to actually be published!

It will take 10 more days for my first proof to arrive. When I approve of the proof amazon will create a page for the book. That can take up to 15 days.

Sooooo, 10 + 15 = 25 days from now my book should be available on amazon.com. I think that will be Mon, March 9.

I will be doing a lot of thumb twiddling in the meantime.

It's not a silly post, that is awesome you are getting a book published. It may be a slow process and frustrating because you want it to hurry up and to be actually published, but at least you know it is on it's way. Very exciting news! Congratulations!!

It is taking an incredible amount of time with amazon. It may be weeks before it is published. 12 days to receive my proof, then corrections on getting pictures sharper, then another 12 days for the second pooof…if I like the second proof it will be sold on amazon.com.

^5 Richard. Been there, done that and I know the feeling. I'm still not happy with my first book but I was in such a hurry to get it on the market, I approved the proof anyway. It's readable but every time I pick up a copy I find more boo-boo's. My advice is to take your time and be sure the finished product is something you'll always be proud of. I'm sure the ladies will take me to task but the publishing process is rather like giving birth.

Congratulations! Writing a book, rather FINISHING the writing of a book, is an enormous accomplishment. I hope you have taken the time to joyfully wallow in that fact. Then comes the publishing work, and work it is! Sounds like Amazon is making that more difficult. Of course, publishing is followed by the promotion — more work! Again, I hope you wallowed sufficiently in the fantastic success of completing your book from cover to cover. It might be enough to get you through the rest.

Keep me/us posted, and please share the name of the book and a bit on what it is about.

Best wishes,
Anne
