Pretty soon we will have our own "inside joke"…we'll say #xx and all burst out laughing. I don't know why, but #1 hit me as so funny, visualizing collecting whale, after whale, after whale…and they kept getting funnier…I found myself looking at my hands at #3, agreeing with #6 and thought #8 summed it all up!

I sure love this family!

Instead of adding more to my P and M on Drs/catcan and miscommunication, I am NOT playing the victim anymore!! I called the hospital of my new reg. Dr, he told the cancer nurse in another hospital, that I did not need that cat scan of my kidney, to follow up the possiblity of something going on where I had cancer removed last Sept!! Boy, the x-ray tech is GOOD and PERSEVERES!! SHE CALLED the radiologist that read my MRI, and he said, YES, SHE needs that cat scan now—she had cancer, and it needs to be followed up on——!" So the tech called me stating that she would talk to my DR and insist that I have it done, will get the necessary order, call the cancer nurse, stating such——-etc THANK HEAVENS I finally found someone who could help me out, to straighten out all of these confusion of orders—-

Now why did I think that if I had cancer, my Dr would listen to me and pay attention!! Instead he acted put out——Why, I am not sure, but I feel well enough now, with you guys support, to pursue what I KNEW and FELT was RIGHT!! Guess there is never any time when we can let our guard down!! No reason we get so TIRED!! PR

Way to go Pat!!! LUV YA GIRLl!!!

imsuzie2 2010-02-12 05:33:10 -0600 Report

Time for another new doctor. Ask the tech that pushed for the testing to recommend someone. We saw Mike's new PCP at the VA and were not impressed. On the way out, I asked the receptionist who she would send her brother (pointing to white Mike, she was black) and she told us who she would go to. We thanked her and will call and ask for the change. The people working with the doctors know who they would go to and I always think they make the best recommendations. Good luck, Pat. Stay with it!

I am really and truely shocked this morning, Our secretary brought cookies for everybody for Valentines day and she stop by my desk and told me that she knew I couldn't eat the cookies so she made me some sugar free banana bread. First time for that too happen. Makes me feel specail.

OMG-T2 2010-02-12 08:40:28 -0600 Report

That's so cool, Roy531! I would be shocked too — mostly very pleasantly surprised though. You really must be a special person to warrant such consideration. So, as cc9 said, enjoy it, you certainly deserve it!

imsuzie2 2010-02-13 02:43:07 -0600 Report

Very few think about us diabetics at our pot lucks, so I usually bring in veggies or fruit or cheese with fruit or veggies. Mostly lots of desserts or hot dishes I can't eat cuz of the onions. I think the secretary was especially kind. Shame she doesn't work with me!

imsuzie2 2010-02-13 20:42:36 -0600 Report

Yes. Apparently they have sulfa in them, and I am allergic to sulfa. I can handle onion powder and onion salt, not the onion itself. If the pieces are big enough, I can pick them out…sets me in a flare-up of my ulcerative colitis. Not fun!

cc9 2010-02-13 20:47:52 -0600 Report

oh dear. that must be a pain. there may be some foods in which they are onions in the ingredients but all blended up and you need to be so careful.

imsuzie2 2010-02-14 01:01:28 -0600 Report

Besides reading carbs, sugars, fat, I read ingredients for onions and peppers. Ya get the hang of it. The fun thing is insisting the waitress/waiter check with the chef cuz they always say no, especially w/cream soups.

Deb-G 2010-02-12 12:54:59 -0600 Report

Hey Kd try not to piss on other peoples parades eeh…

It was a awesome gesture of thoughtfulness and most sugar free banana bread recipes use wheat flour and yield only 18 carbs per chunk

I suppose you dont eat fruit Kd? (eyeroll)

kdroberts 2010-02-12 13:44:22 -0600 Report

I guess there is some secret code on this thread because I'm baffled as to why people think what I said was a criticism. Or is this one of those bandwagon things?

kdroberts 2010-02-12 14:09:34 -0600 Report

The whole thing was the joke. I said it was a very nice gesture, can't for the life of me see how that is criticizing unless you feel that being nice is wrong and people should not try to be nice to diabetics. Then I said it was a shame about the flour and bananas based on belief of many people that diabetics only have to worry about sugar when in reality that is not the case and it becomes more humorous the more people tell it to you.

dietcherry 2010-02-12 14:44:42 -0600 Report

Your jealousy is showing again, kd. There are mostly diabetics on this site so who are all these people you refer to who believe that the only worry is sugar? Good try. And there is no possibility of my disliking you-I pity you too much.

Deb-G 2010-02-12 14:09:51 -0600 Report

Kd…the problem is we already know you…maybe in some random thread where nobody in it has had the opportunity to be insulted by you…your "diabetic humor" would seem funny??

Although…I can read that 100 times and still not get your joke if thats what it was…So it was a gesture of being nice, followed up by a sarcastic funny?…You cant "for the life of you" see why that is critizing? You took a nice gesture and followed it up with why its still not great…oh wait, we were suppose to solve the puzzle and realize it was about somes beliefs about sugar…? Aren't jokes usually to the point and out there, not a puzzle that takes profiling to solve…

Roy…you go ahead and enjoy it…just not all at once…sugar free banana bread is usually made with wheat flour and some banana's but only has about 18g-carbs per serving…so its certainly not something you shouldn't enjoy…

I guess 18 carb grams are somehow funny…

So let me laugh and enjoy the joke..

Party on! :D

kdroberts 2010-02-12 14:32:35 -0600 Report

No, you don't know me. You may dislike me or have some pre-existing prejudices against me though. It's OK, I figure that somebody who feels the need to open 5 threads dedicated to complaining understands and gets more joy from misery than humor.

The only time I will criticize is when incorrect, misleading, bad or potentially harmful things get posted, even then I let a lot slide because people on this board seem to get offended and upset easily.

Deb-G 2010-02-12 14:41:19 -0600 Report

There's not 5-threads…If you had been following along…Its a continuation for the enjoyment of the people laughin in it and enjoying the funny things that come out of complaining and venting about it…We could scroll 5 pages worth but we continue it separate to make loading quicker…

What you didn't know that Mr Brilliant???

you are bitter aren't you…

Its very sad…sad indeed…

You remind me of my Ex…he use to say nasty things and then when people notice it and call him on it he claims it was "taken the wrong way" or "just a joke"..and talked all "my goodness I cant for the life of me see where that came from"…

Puleeze…we dont need you "to let alot slide"…what are you the diabetic czar…and its everyone elses fault but never your own…

Why are you on this thread then is you dont like misery?…ooooooo maybe because on further inspection there's no misery at all so you might as well bring some!

and for your information every comment you make is done in a RUDE manner…and most of the potentially harmful advice comes from YOU..your no doctor, you really should stop pretending you are…

kdroberts 2010-02-12 14:57:47 -0600 Report

OK, I'm going to call you on this because it's mostly angrily written BS.

1. There are 5 threads no matter how you spin it and you started each one.
2. Show me where I have given potentially harmful advice. This annoys me because it's not even close to the truth and you know it. You just said it to try and hurt my feelings or something equally sad. You need to post examples or delete it.
3. I'm not bitter but you seem to be very bitter against me
4. If you don't get the joke then just ignore it, it wasn't meant any other way.
5. I don't pretend to be a doctor or diabetic czar. I do a lot of research and I talk a lot to healthcare professionals so I know a lot about diabetes and various other conditions. I try to help people with that knowledge. If people don't like to hear it or don't like the reality or ar too sensitive that isn't my fault.

Deb-G 2010-02-12 15:03:55 -0600 Report

::::::::::again…in good faith…I am deleting my reply…because…it was not nice…and i'm not going down this road with you::::::::::::

Thank you have a nice day :)

kdroberts 2010-02-12 15:22:05 -0600 Report

You are still telling bare faced lies. Personal insults are sad but I can take them but I will not let blatant lies slide. I have never recommended a medication to anyone. I have given information about medications, all of which is 100% true, and have told people what alternatives exists when they ask but I have not recommended one. Either post some proper examples or take back your lie. And before you ask, yes, I am calling you a liar.

I also have the feeling that if anyone else posted the exact same thing I did, you and a few others would not have said a word. You can see what you want to see but my post was a little joke, nothing more, no criticism or offense intended.

dietcherry 2010-02-12 15:42:06 -0600 Report

Roy, you have nothing to apologize for! You are as innocent a bystander as one can get! Continue to enjoy your S-F banana bread and the contentment of knowing that someone was so kind to think of you and your diabetes! Renee :)

I would like to weigh in on what's been going on here. I completely understood the tongue in cheek humor that kdroberts was attempting. But this is a good reminder for everyone on an open discussion board—humor and sarcasm can often be difficult to express and easy to misunderstand.

I would like to ask all members here for your help. It would be wise for all of us to not jump to conclusions. Give each other the benefit of the doubt. We are certainly allowed to have differing opinions and perspectives. But it is against the terms of this site to use these board for personal attacks. Please, let's not distract from all that's good here on this site by posting personal spats like this one.

Arrgghh! I just want to kick myself. I JUST, JUST, JUST ate a small piece of chocolate (dark at least) candy for the first time since the beginning of the year! Now, I have never been all crazy for candy, but occasionally it was nice. Since my diagnosis, I have treated all candy like it's kryptonite, so I am doubly ashamed of myself!

The whole situation played out classically…my co-worker just received flowers, balloons and a box of chocolates for Valentine's Day and she started offering the candy the candy around. My first response was "Are you trying to kill me?!", but my co-worker said "Aw, c'mon, one won't kill you." Probably not, but who knows? I could have choked on it. Might as well have, as bad as I feel.

I just want to scream! I hate when I slip up!

Danni-the-diabetic 2010-02-11 15:34:11 -0600 Report

Don't beat yourself up. We all slip up once in awhile, we are only human. As long as it's once in awhile it's ok to treat yourself to a tasty treat, so I think anyway. We can't deprive ourselves or else one day we might over indulge when we get that first taste lol.

Must be the week for cheating…I had a frozen sugar-free vanilla caramel coffee from an awesome coffee shop here in my small town. It's soooo good, but even though it's sugar free, we all know that the stuff still contains carbs and sugars. My sugar jumped up to 247, I was so mad at myself. I didn't eat dinner and gave myself insulin and my sugar dropped to 34…I just cant get it stabled. Was it worth it!? For that moment while I was drinking it, it sure was!

Roy531 2010-02-11 21:41:39 -0600 Report

Things happen like that. If I want something sweet tasting usually bake it myself, still has the carbs but I know what I put in it. Besides that I can always go back in a few hours and have more and never leave the house. Just keep working at it you will get it stable. Nothing ever happens overnight.

One piece of candy once in awhile, if you are in good control won't kill you, and you can adjust your carbs if you feel that bad. What I do when I want candy is split it with my non-diabetic husband. I always try to get something under 30 carbs, so my half is 15 carbs or less. Hope that helps.

Friday's we usually go to the seafood buffet at our local casino. I rarely eat desserts, would rather have other carbs…tonite I took a piece of German chocolate cake and carrot and had about a 1/3 of the small square of carrot cake and about 1/2 of the German chocolate cake. Small pieces that might have equaled 1 serving, and I had no guilt. Once in awhile you need to be "human". The win is I did not finish either piece, or have ice cream too.
