Hi Everyone ,

I love popcorn very much however did not eat since my hubby was diagnosed as I know that corn is one of the biggest carb sources.Today I was searching for the some nutrition facts , also checked the popcorn's and have seen that it's low in carb and calories. How are your thoughts?Anyone who keep eating popcorns?
I used to use 1-2 tablespoon of olive oil + 1 cup of dried corns to pop them up.And still have an intend to do in that way.
Thanks, thanks…

I eat popcorn at least once a week. If I eat it later in the evening while in front of the TV which is the time of day that my B/G is low, so it doesn't run my number up to high.

Hey Badgirl! How much popcorn is in one of those bags? How have your blood glucose readings been after you eat that much?

I was told by my dietician that it is ok to have 3 cups of popcorn. I love it, especially at ball games.

I love popcorn, and my husband does too…We used to eat it evey night watching a movie or tv, until my husband got throat cancer, then he couldn't eat it, so I didn't eat it as much, then I got diabetes, and was afraid to eat it…Now I want some popcorn, and I just might pop a bag…LOL. Did I hear someone say it was SNACK TIME? LOL

An old farmer went to town to see a movie. The ticket girl said, “Sir, what is that on your shoulder?”

The old farmer said, “That is my pet rooster, Chuckie. Wherever I go, Chuckie goes.”

“I’m sorry, Sir,” said the ticket girl, “We can’t allow animals in the theater. Not even a pet chicken.”

The old farmer went around the corner and stuffed the chicken down his pants. He returned to the booth, bought a ticket and entered the theater. He sat down next to two old emergency room nurses named Mildred and Marge.

The movie started and the chicken began to squirm. The old farmer un-zipped his pants so Chuckie could stick his head out and watch the movie.

“Marge,” whispered Mildred.

“What?” said Marge.

“I think the guy next to me is a pervert.”

“What makes you think so?” asked Marge.

“He unzipped his pants and he has his thing out,” whispered Mildred.

“Well, don’t worry about it,” said Marge, “At our age it isn’t anything we haven’t seen before.”

“Yes,” said Mildred, “But this one’s eating my popcorn!”

Sorry, couldn't resist it. It was either here, or on the favorite pet story. lol lol

I used to have bad bouts of diverticulitis so popcorn was forbidden!! Oh, my, how I YEARNED for some of that forbidden "fruit" as the nurses popped away in our lounge room. Well, I had to have 2 ft of colon removed and was given the OK to eat popcorn again! Oh, my how WONDERFUL , for awhile, now that I KNOW that I can have it, I no longer CRAVED it so, then diabetis came along, and I can take it or leave it—-but I am lazy and use the bags in the microwave, lately I just eat a part of the sack, then heat the rest up in the microwave, over the next few days. It doesn't seem to bother my BS—-Hugs, Pat R

BIRDY 2010-02-04 11:40:28 -0600 Report

oh Pat , do not worry. You see I'm always ready for a hard sacrifice.I can also eat up your 3/4 heart and soul.Just let me know the date and time :)

2010-02-04 13:48:19 -0600 Report

oh my goodness…all this talk about popcorn is making me a little hungry..Yum-Yum.

ptsparkle 2010-02-04 10:28:27 -0600 Report

Moderation in all things. Butter is my downfall with popcorn. Have to have 12 cubes of butter and 1/2 shaker of salt. Mostly I avoid it, but it sure is good!

BIRDY 2010-02-04 11:18:07 -0600 Report

Jim in this case we can eat them once while.Sorry for my poor English but does" once a while" mean everyday or twice a day:)

ptsparkle 2010-02-04 12:15:22 -0600 Report

Don't ever apologize for your English. It is 1,000,000,000 times better than my Turkish !! lol

Haha—Oh, Jim, I am laughing again!! Maybe that will help my BS to not go up—as I ate mashed pot and noodles for dinner! I know, but I was hungry and nothing else was satisfying me—-may have to take my Glipizide later, but it DOWNS me so, I have to test frequently to make sure it doesn't bottom out then—started eating a piece of celery with peanut butter when I take the med, and it seems to help avoid those DROPS!! Types of Carbs : ( Anything in excess can be harmfull)

Carbohydrates are a big part of our diets, and are not necessarily bad by definition. However, you must note that there are simple and complex carbohydrates. When putting together your diet, you will want to be sure that it is one that has a higher component of complex carbohydrates as opposed to the simple carbs that are so prevalent in our food choices today. Simple carbs are basically sugar, and diets that are full of these sugars are exactly the type of diets that can lead to type 2 Diabetes. However, complex carbohydrates are a good choice to add to your diet because they are more difficult to digest. Therefore, your body has to work harder to process them, and that will give you a longer lasting energy source.

Love it, Don't stop it, Control it … Eat your popcorn !

Danni-the-diabetic 2010-02-04 09:08:37 -0600 Report

I love popcorn! If i'm wanting a snack while watching a movie or playing cards I'll make some, but I'm careful with my intake. I cook mine over the stove, like it sounds like you do. I'll be honest, I don't measure it, I just put a little bit of oil and butter and pour the popcorn in. The bag popcorn is alot worse, very high in sodium and more calories.

BIRDY 2010-02-04 09:52:25 -0600 Report

also the bag is very harmful as it's made of amiant.Hmmm Danni it seems I'm gonna pop some corn soon :)

Danni-the-diabetic 2010-02-04 11:03:49 -0600 Report

Ha! Ha! What about movie theatre popcorn!? It's air popped, yet it's LOADED with salt and butter - but sooo good!! lol this is making me want some popcorn…maybe I'll pop some for lunch :)

BIRDY 2010-02-04 11:25:19 -0600 Report

fortunately I'm an asocial person who do not like watching the same movie with many stranger people :) That keeps me away from those popcorns :)
