Hey everyone, I just got diagnosed with something called polycythemia, which means too many red blood cells. I have to undergo further testing to determine the cause, which could be anything from sleep apnea to cancer. I was just wondering if anyone on here also has this along with thier diabetes and if so, what kid of treatments do you take? This is really scary, as it can kill you if your blood volume gets too high. Thanks in advance!

I've was dx'd with p vera in 2002. If you're not working with a hematologist you need to be…they have the expertise to make an accurate diagnosis. Mainly have been treated with phlebotomies and have had pretty good success - my HCT rarely goes above 45. I haven't noticed any interplay between the pv and my diabetes.

I do not have this but just wanted to let you know that everyone here cares and please keep us informed as to how you are doing. My only blood issue is with my lupus where my body thinks that my good cells are really bad cells and attacks them. Thinking about you. jackie
