For now. I am on prenatal vits w/ iron. Sure to make me sick. Iron pills always have.

Happy Birthday, Robbin!! You are a sweetheart, and will be stronger in time—-anemia does make one want to sleep a lot, do little—-and we all want you in strong shape before you have that surgery, as it is a bloody one, at best—just a fact that they told me before surgery. Love, and Best wishes! Pat R

Sorry to learn that Robbin, that's a real bummer! You were SO llking forward to that! That Dx may explain a lot about what's been happening with you recently.

If your iron is too low, your red blood count is probably low. ( "Jem" is anemic frequently and has to have blood transfusions every so often .) See the Mayo clinic webpages on this ~

Here's a link to an article from Mayo clinic about Iron defiency anemia: [Since you're seeing the Hemo Dr please note the page entitled "Preparing for your appointment"]

and also this link:

Oh and by the way: Happy birthday to you. Check your DC email, please!

I continue in prayer for you.

Hope this helps you to get the most out of your iron supplement.

Iron supplements
Iron deficiency anaemia is diagnosed with a blood test. You may be advised by your doctor to take iron supplements. Points to note include:
The most common side effect of iron supplements is dark coloured or black stools (poo), so don’t be alarmed by this change to your bowel habits.
Other common side effects include nausea, vomiting, constipation and diarrhoea. See your doctor for advice but, generally speaking, treatment involves lowering the recommended dose for a short time to give the body time to adjust.
Iron supplements should be taken on an empty stomach.
Take the supplements as advised by your doctor. The human body isn’t very good at excreting iron and you could poison yourself if you take more than the recommended dose.

Hi Turtle,
I hope you feel better soon. I was severely anemic years ago, and I remember how tired I was! Liver, spinach, kidney beans, and other greens are high in iron. There are many foods that are…maybe google to see what they all are because I don't remember.
Take care and have a great birthday today! Hugs,
Sal :)

Hi everyone,
Thank you for your kind words. I an not bleeding from anywhere or at least I wasnt when I was tested from a-z a few years ago so it is a matter of my not making enough rust for my blood. My red cells are too high or too low too. Anybody know what that means?

No, but do you like liver? Spinach? Think they are both high in iron. See what the dietitian can do for your meals to increase the iron rich foods for you too. Happy birthday! Hugs

Thats alright Turtle the surgery will take place very soon. Your iron will be up and running high enough and then it will be all over. Hope you take time to enjoy your special day tomorrow. Happy birthday in advance.

Turtle, it means you're anemic. That's probably why you've been feeling tired and why you got the cold. Take your iron like a good girl. LOL. And have a great birthday tomorrow. Try not to do too much dancing.

You mean you are going to pass up an opportunity to let some hot Drs. operate on you?? Chew on some rusty nails to get your iron up ! lol. Stay away from the red wine tomorrow on YOUR BIRTHDAY ! Get better fast.
