A friend of mine, who suffers from type 2 diabetes, recently had a divorced, because her ex-husband couldn't handle the fact that Mary had diabetes and obese, he feared that Mary would die, and leave him with a huge burden, for both he and Mary didn't have any health or life insurance, they just simply took advantage of the free clinic, which didn't help much other than supply Mary's meds. Well anyways Bob, Mary's ex, decided to divorce Mary, but leave her the trailer home. Mary was very depressed because she was left to live by herself, for her son John and daughter Samantha had moved from Texas. John went to College in New York and Samantha married and left to Oklahoma. Well Mary was so depressed that she almost took her life away, until one early spring of March of 08, when I invited Mary to go with me to the outlet mall in Killeen, Tx. She at first was hesitant to move from her couch, but I insistead she go, because I couldn't bare with her depressed behavior at all. Well she finnally got dressed and ready to go. As we arrived at the mall, there was a group of people from the animal shelter who where set up outside the mall with all sorts of dogs and cats, and most of them where puppies and kittens, I was happy they where there, because for the first time in 3 months after Mary's divorce, I got to see Mary smile when she saw and held a cute brown chocolate lab puppy, Mary loved him so much that she paid the worker 150.00 for the puppy that she now calls Life Savor, for he makes her feel happy and alive. Mary is not alone anymore thanks to her new best friend to the end, Life Savor.

As someone who LOVES my dogs, I have one that can sense the change in my bg readings before I do. I ask my dr about it and she said that when our glucose levels change our skin gives off a different smell. so Tara will wake me when I am going low! she is my constant companion. I have 5 Terriers and she is the only one totally in tune with me. Pets do very much inrich ones life. My home would be like a tumb without my babies…

God bless you. You are trully a great friend and God is going to reward you for that. As for Mary you should invite her to join the community it will do her good. I am more than willing to be a friend to her and im sure the community will be too. Maybe we can also be of help to her. I joined and the community has helped me in many ways.

What a good friend you are! And now your friend has a friend…of the furry kind! I have two cats and a dog - all rescued from a shelter or the street. My dog's a Lab - my sis has one as well and taught me that "Labs love to be kissed!" And they DO.

And, hugged too. And, being so big, you don't have to worry about squeezing them to death! Hugs

Yeah, but in their puppy exuberance, you have to be careful - mine broke my nose early on! (Long and stupid story) But she's a sweetheart.

The unconditional love they give us is worth a broken nose! And more…

That is as bad as my son, as a toddler breaking one or was it two of my toes when he ran down our extremely long hallway, and cut in front of me. My toes hit his heel…ouch!

I put my golden retriever down this summer.(14)
Lucas will always be in my heart, but he left a
big void in my life. I adopted my ginger from
rescue. (cockerspaniel/irish setter)
Animals keep your stress level down which
helps you to stay in BS target. I am new but
its seems everbody is so caring, which we all
need.

Thats a great story…A dog can be a life saver…and best friend…plus they will forse you to get up and move and walk with them which is so good for eveyrone. There is nothing like the love of a good dog…they love you unconditioaly…forever. My dog fetches her collar at sunrise…cause she knows its walk time…if it werent for her…I probubly wouldnt go…but she makes me..like she knows that I need to go walking every day and so does she…and we have the greatist time every morning. we live in the country so we can walk without a leash…which makes her very happy…she can run and sniff and chase deer..and I get to enjoy the sunrise and birds and deer…before she chases them away. hope your friend can get out and walk with her dog…its so good for depression.

You are so right. When I cry, my black lab is right by my side to grab the Kleenex as I am blowing my nose. No love, no kisses, just "give me the dirty Kleenex". It is a jackpot if hubby and I are both crying!!! LOL

Just who is the life saver? You did a beautiful thing, insisting Mary go with you. I have a black lab who is the love of my life. Labs are so smart…tell Mary I taught mine to "yawn" on command in less than 2 weeks! Also, tell her to watch for the chewing stage, around 1 1/2 years…mine chewed his way around the house and backyard! S2
