I could not locate any info on the ADA website. The nearest ADA org is 50 miles away from where I live.
Any advice on where to begin?

Check with your local hospitals. I know three hospitals here in the area that has Diabetic Support Groups. One of the local hospitals has an annual thing where they have the Doctors and Nurses come in and update on the newest items to Diabetics. You could also check with the local pharmacy's and people who make the drugs and machines for diabetics. They also come and give free samples. Set up a place and time and post it in the area stores and hospitals. People will come.

When you have the will, you will have the way. I sent out notes to people in florida to see if they were intersted in a meet & greet, but I didn't really get much response.
I believe "If you build it, they will come" My mom knows several people who are diabetic and I think we are going to be planning a canning party in the fall thanks to Dancehawks canning discussions. It will be a bonding time and if we plan things that are fun and not "support groupish" people will come to be social. Can you imagine a group meeting where you can partake in everything? What a great concept!
I just spent an afternoon with a new friend who is pre-diabetic and we saw Mamma-Mia! (GREAT CHICK FLICK, YOU MUST SEE!!) But we realized we need to do this more often. We shared our struggles, our laughable experiments and about our loveable but clueless spouses and their well meaning efforts. We just had a good time.
All said to say...just find one, get together, have fun and then go where you will find others. Your nutrition classes, exercise class, on a walk in the neighborhood...they will come. Just make it activity oriented and fun.
