Meters are only a tool to help us get blood sugars under control. They can be off as much as 20%. I have had false lows at least once. One day I tested and it read 30. I tested again and it read 70 something. When I first started to test my blood sugars were in the 300’s before eating. I tested before and after each meal to determine what foods were spiking my blood sugar.

I stopped eating foods that spiked my blood sugar more than 30-40 points. Over time my blood sugars dropped to almost normal numbers. Now when I wake up in the morning its usually between 80 and 85. After I eat its usually below 110-120. My last A1C was 5.6. When diagnosed last Feb. it was 14.1.

I would of never have been able to do what I did without my meter. By testing at least 6 times a day it took less than 2 months to bring my blood sugar to a normal level. I still spike my sugar once in a while and I try to avoid it from happing again. But as long as I’m human I’m going to spike it once in awhile. Its nice I have a meter to let know its happening.

Good luck

136 may be high for you, but that isn't really that bad.

When I first read your message I thought you were getting the "HIGH"/ "HI" reading..which is a big deal…that means you are at least 500 or 600 depending on your meter.

Still might be a good idea to talk with your educator, but depending on when you tested that might be just fine.

Meters can be off. If you drop it, or batteries are low.
Did you check your meter with test solution? If it reads
high or low take action.

I checked my BS the other day…it read 159…I thought that was too high…checked it again right after…129. That has happenrd before a few times. Clean finger..same finger. Some times I think the meters arent allways right…just like the meds and the docs. Thats why its so darn frustrating!

My DR told me the meters are 5%-10% off either way up or down none are perfectly exact. The problem is we do not know if they are off on the high side or low side.It is a guessing game and we are the players.
