I have NO insurance and am very low income. Right now I have totally ran out of my syringes and am totally broke. I take two shots a day of both Humilin N and Humilin R. How awful would it be to reuse some of my needles? I don't know what else to do, it's either that or go without my shots. I figure reusing is the leaset of the two evils. Can someone tell me, how awful is it to do that?

Darlene, here in Walla Walla I have been where you have been with meds and stuff and we can go to Help Line, BMAC, or Salvation Army, St. Vincent De Paul to name a few for low income people and they will help you. They just usually can't help you with testing supplies as that gets into more expensive money. But syringes with needles aren't that costly unless it is for a person like you or me that have it hard just to make it paycheck to paycheck every month and I know alot of you out there are this way, too. If they can't they usually know who to refer you to that will. Hope this helps you. If I was using syringes and needles I would send you some but right now I am on oral meds. Hope this helps and you may call the cop shop as they know quite a few different places that may help. Kathy

Thank you Kathy. I am familiar with St Vincent De Paul's but have never heard of the others or the cop shop. I appreciate the advice and will definitely give them a call!

If you need insulin, you need insulin. Do what you have to do. Going without your shots may do more harm than reusing your needles.

Good luck.

I use my needles many times, I keep them in the fridge with my insulin and I don't use alcohol wipes either. Only have to make sure to use a diferent needle for every type of insulin.

Hey friend, I know it's tough right now and what we are talking about doing is a medical "no-no". I noticed someone else replied with a link to a websight to assist you. I have been in your shoes more than once. Just to let you know, I have done this (had to) and have scar tissue from multiple injections. There has to be a way for you to get what you need. If you have to do this, sterlize the needles by washing with alcohol (draw the alcohol in the syringe and clean the needle itself). DO NOT make this a repeat practice. There has to be a way for you to get what you need. I will have you in my prayers.
