I know many of us are struggling to lose weight and exercise. I am starting this discussion so we all have one place to report in on our progress, and benefit from the support of others. I struggle because I am alone and it makes it very hard. So I am starting this discussion to help myself and anyone else who would like to participate. Let's plan on reporting in once a week. You choose the day. Feel free to cheer everyone on! Good luck all! :)

Sal you are doing so great, I am so proud of you. Right now my fatigue is kicking in big time, last week somehow gained 5lbs, do not think it is all muscle, fine tuning today, writing down everything I eat, 30 min. on bike, exercise band stregthening, then will open new yoga for beginners. I am hanging in. again way to go

Thank you Jaclyn! You are doing great on the exercise part which I am struggling with. My nutritionist said today that if I don't exercise, I will not keep the weight off. That was an eye opener. I hadn't really thought of that before.
So, if we could combine our efforts we would be doing it just right! lol
Writing down everything you eat is a huge help. Also, there are several web sites…one is
www.fitday.com
Keep up the good work exercising and the weight will come off too. :)

Hi everyone,
How are you all doing? I went to my nutritionist today, and I have lost another few pounds so we are both happy…and encouraged.
Now I just need to get exercising more!

I think this is a very well thought out plan. Exercising while living alone is such a hard thing to do. I am going to start Monday morning and check my weight and check into this "club" on Monday's and see how we are all doing. It's going to take time, but with one another's help, we can make it work.

I started my class on Wednesday called "A Better Balance" which is aimed at creating a healthy lifestyle including diet and exercise. I think it is going to be good. This first week, we did some sharing and very basic things. We did receive a book on Volumetrics. The nutritionist/dietician recommended it. I need to learn more, and then I will share.

True confession time. Last night we went out for dinner, now if I had just stopped at the cheese burger I would have been fine, but you all kno what it is like when you have been good for so long, that milkshake and fries with gravy and cheese did me in. So as they used to tell us at weight watchers, many many eons ago, the weekend is coming and it is a wonderful two day package to get right back on track. jaclyn ps how is everyone else doing?

Hi,
I was doing okay until this morning. I didn't have time to eat at home, and there was a breakfast "shower" for a coworker who had gotten married recently. Well, all those goodies had my name on them! I really splurged! I need to be good after that for a long time! lol

Well knocked off a couple of the lbs I put on with the hormone change but still got a way to go. 171 lbs is the new starting weight not bad for 5'5. Been runnin the roads for doctor's appt so haven't had a chance to set up a exercise regime but sure been burnin up the calories. See the dietician on monday so I should get some help there. Still feelin positive even after the shift in weight. I was so mad that I got back up to 180 but it came off pretty easily with controlling the fluids. Now I just have to face the weekend. lol.

I have started going to a nutritionist, and it has been a big help. I am also starting an 8 week class that the nutritionist's office is having. I hope it all helps me lose the weight, drop my numbers, and ultimately go off some meds.

I struggle with weight loss. I have been doing Weight Watchers and lose a pound a week or so. It is really hard because my body does not want to give up the fat:( I am trying to exercise and have increased my water intake. Anyone else struggling? I have lost 48 pounds so far but it has taken me 7 months

salmanda
salmanda 2010-01-23 06:57:20 -0600 Report

Nice start! Sounds like you are doing great on Weight Watchers. I think that losing a pound a week is the safe way to do it, and it also seems to slow down when you are closer to your goal weight since you don't have as much to lose. So, good job! YAY!

I, too, would like to join your exercise/weight loss club. However, I'm finding it easier to take it in baby steps, so please bear with me. I'm 4ft, 10 inches and my weight yo-yos beetween 135 and 140, and I've been told I should get down to 120.
I've lost my desire for cookies, candy, ice cream, etc, and now I've gone to fifty-50 peanut butter, plain fat-free yogurt and I frequently snack on strawberries and on grapes. I try to work out at Curves 3 days a week and more if I can fit them in. I need to get back to riding my stationary bike on days when the weather prevents me from driving to Curves.
I'll try to report in on my progress every Saturday.

I am now using my treadmill everyday, that helps with the stress a little, but when you are extremely concerned with 3 little boyz and how disfunctional parents treat them, I just have to help the kids, my husband says we have raised ours but these kids are 5, 9, 12 someone has to take them to hockey and tournaments, and yes come up with the money to pay for travel, hotel rooms, food etc. I am joining a new Business womens group starting next moth, trying to do more things for me. Thanks for letting me vent and thanks for this weight loss/exercise club :) by the way I am 5'2" and 142lbs. I know if I could keep up the exercise and lose more weight my BS would be better as well. Faith and hope to all of us here.

Got so frustrated yesterday when I went in to the doctor. I had to see my primary care doc about a refill on my hormone replacement. I was using the patch but they changed the adhesive and now it blisters my skin. Being off the hormones for 2 weeks I knew that I would have some weight gain but 5 lbs! Have to wait 2 more weeks to start something new since they are putting me on a pill form. Loosing all that ground I gained makes me mad. Guess I'll have to really watch the fluids until I can get my hormones back on track.

salmanda

Things like that are so frustrating! Hang in there Becky…it will all work out for the best in time. Do what you need to do for yourself and eat healthy so you can reverse the gain you made. Try not to get so frustrated that you eat more because then you will gain more and your numbers will be too high as well.
Good luck and Hugs

Sounds like a great idea. I was doin pretty well until the holidays then I gained back 15 lbs. I was just sick about it until I went to the PA thursday and she told me she had gained 21! Got a Wii from Dad for Christmas just haven't hooked it up yet. I have Degenerative Disc Disease in my back and neck so not gonna push it too hard but having someone to help keep me on track will be helpful. I was my biggest in 2006 (324 lbs) but have come down quite a bit. Now I'm at 170 and it seems like it's 10 x harder to loose than when I was bigger! New Year's resolution is to drop another 20 lbs, more if I'm lucky. At 5'5' my BMI says I should be between 129-149. Help me get there please!

Th,ere are some exercise programs that you can do sitting in a chair. I went to diabetes education, and one class was about exercise. They had a tape that we tried. It was fun, and everyone there was laughing and enjoying it.
Perhaps you could search on the web for one, or check with your doctor.

sal, i find the best thing to do in terms of food is to plan ahead and eating regularly( no more than 3 hours apart) keeps the metabolism going. and it keeps your sugars even. the proviso is of course the portions are small and healthy foods/snacks.

if you can afford it pay for a personal trainer to get you through the pace and push you. i had a personal trainer twice a week to help me get over a plateau. i did interval training and every time i train i am doing different routines so the muscles dont adapt.

muscles burn fat. your weight on the scales may not drop significantly but your BMI and measurements would shift. and your bsl will be better.

i also find if i dont schedule my gym time, i never make it to the gym because other things get in the way. work with your natural circadian rhythmn. i am not an early riser so going to the gym in the morning for me means i am setting myself up to fail.

apart from resistance training and cardio, add in pilates, yoga and swimming and that keeps one from being bored.

have good music on your mp3 for workouts.

i keep a food/bsl readings/weight/measurements/emotions/barriers diary to ensure i can see progress.

thats it for me for now. hope it helps.
