Problem with cereals are they are loaded with carbs…even if its a cereal that comes in around 20-25 c grams…there's little to no protein to balance it…then you add milk and slam the carbs up some more lol…and still little protein…so glycemically its a huge load and its really best to avoid…The cooked cereals are the best glycemically…and even instant oatmeal is better then boxed cold cereal…its a huge carb way to start your day…and you really want to start the furnace with protein not sugar…I guess i dont care for cereal so I didn't mind dumpin it…but I know my Mom loves cereal so she lives on Oatmeal instead…

I have found great success with Special K which has 23 carbs. I add vanilla yogurt to the special k for a special treat if my morning number is good. It is a great mixture and also adds a calcium to cereal if you are not a milk person.

I used to use peach yogurt. Also not a milk person, unless dipping chocolate chip cookies into the milk. LOL Sad, but true.

Think Glucerna has cereal, as well as the drinks and the bars. I don't do cereal very well, but do like instant oatmeal. Usually have a sandwich on low carb bread or wheat English muffins or chewy low sugar granola bars. On the run, of course. LOL

No kidding what a crying shame. I had to find out the hard way when Cherrios sent Troy's numbers sky rocketting. Then I saw it on the glycemic index and it was high. We stick to oatmeal. What is cool about oatmeal though is how you can load it up. I put flax seed, cinnamon, fiber, and bluberries in it. I call it "loaded oatmeal." Troy is 3 so I call the blueberries blueberry bombs. This is how I get him to eat the oatmeal. Hee Hee. When I give him a spoonful with a blueberry on top I say "Boom" I blew you up" He gets a kick out of it. By the way the bluberries are frozen so it adds a nice cold combo to the warm oatmeal. I try to keep fresh berries on hand for snacking but the frozen ones are for the loaded oatmeal. We take a big hit at the grocery store for that but it's worth it.

i agree with deb-g. boxed cereals contain too much sugars are too processed. some of the things i have is a cereal called quinoa which is available from health shops or maybe in supermarkets under health food sections. old fashioned oats mixed with flax seeds and sprinked with shaved almonds. or brown rice porridge served with low fat natural yogurt and a compote of fruit. or make your own bircher muesli. enjoy.

My nutritionalist says to kiss boxed cereals goodbye…the glycemic load is too high..Kelloggs all-bran is low on the glycemic index…but…yuk…other then that old fashioned slow cooked cereals are your best choice…Oatmeal (not the instant)…

If you are absolutely determined to eat boxed cereal she recommended to me Kelloggs All Bran, Bran Chex (not flakes), or the instant oatmeal…anything else is like double the index amount…

Haven’t found any yet. Most have way over 15 carbs per serving and my limit at the moment is 5 or 6 per serving. I have been using a low carb protein drink in the morning and it has kept my blood sugars below 120 after breakfast. Will usually spike my sugar 20-30 points in the morning. I eat a mid morning snack of sunflower seeds or peanuts. Helps me last till lunch. If you find one let us know.

Best of Luck

Have you tried any of the Special K cereals, they seem to keep mine on a steady keel,as well as just plain old fashioned oatmeal.
