I found out in November of 2009 that I have Diabetes 1. Most days I feel terrific. I make sure I take my shots on time and eat right. I use Sparkpeople to track my food and exercise. I have a partner at work that I walk 2 miles a day with. We walk 1 mile in the morning and 1 mile in the afternoon. I snack during the day on fruits, yogurt, nuts, and other low calorie, no sugar items. Every now and then I slip and eat foods that I probably shouldn't. But because I usually eat healthy and drink water, and exercise… it tends to not bother me.

i have had type 1 for about 10 years… and like anything- you have bad days… but i never let it get me down. i still go out, i still do crazy things… i dont let it stop me from doing anything. best thing you can do is try to take care of yourself the best that you can… and when you have a bad day when your sugars are really high and you feel like crap- just think to yourself… "i will be fine… and tomorrow will be better." ;)

I have had type one diabetes for 23 years now & thru out those years I have had ups & downs , but all in all I take each day as a day that Im able to be with family, & freinds. I went thru a depression state that I thought would never end but it did & today Im happy to say that I havent felt depressed in awhile & it feels good.

I have had Type 1 diabetes for about 16 years now — and I feel great, despite the disease. Its a constant battle, but I don't let it ruin my life. :)

That is wonderful, Melissa, not that you have had diabetes for 16 years, but the fact that you "feel" great…I think I would feel much better if I didn't suffer from depression…I don't know wheather it is the depression that drags me down, or the diabetes, when I have my not so good days…I guess they go hand in hand…However, I think that my depression has gotten worse since the diabetes! Do you ever suffer from depression? I hope you do not because it is horrible! Sometimes I think that the depression has gotten worse, because I am still in shock from the diagnosis…

Fortunately, I don't suffer from depression. If anything, I might have a slight anxiety disorder, but I've learned how to temper my anxious thoughts pretty well without medication. (I've just had to teach myself not to give credit to every random thought that pops in my head). In college I did write a paper about the connections between diabetes and mental disorders like depression and anxiety disorders. They are more common among diabetics. I think having to be aware of everything you do, eat, etc. takes its toll. I hope you can get through it and start feeling great soon. Life's a lot more enjoyable that way.

I also suffer from an anxiety disorder as well…I am on medication for that…I wish I could be strong enough to temper my thoughts without the medication, because I have been wanting to get off of it for a couple of years now…But, when I try, the anxiety, and horrible thoughts tend to get worse…

I've used some herbal remedies. One that seemed to help was Passion Fruit. It comes in pill form and it took the edge off. I haven't felt the need to use it for awhile, but during some rougher times it helped.

I ordered the Omega Berry with vitamin D from Purity Products…You probably have heard of it, or seen it advertised..It has a lot of different berry extracts in it…I started taking it, then I stopped…I thought maybe I should discuss it with my endocrinologist before I take any more to see what she thinks about it…I don't know with all of the berry extracts in it, whethere or not it would have any effect on my blood sugar levels…It is suppose to be very good…If she says it is ok,I will start taking it again…, but I want to check with her first…Just incase! I take 4000 mgs of the Omega 3 fish oil capsules everyday…I need SOMETHING to give me some energy, and help me to feel better…

I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes about a yr., and half ago. How do I feel? Well, it depends on how my BS levels are running, and what is going on in my life. I have my good days and my not so good days… We are all different so it is hard to say or know how we are suppose to feel…Usually, I guess I feel pretty good…
