Monalisa suggested we have a discussion thread where we post our BG numbers every day. Sounded like a good idea. Thanks Lisa!

Since I am about out of strips, I am drinking more water, a good thing anyway, to help ward off higher BS, so far it seems to be working!! I ate several choc, then drank water and ate peanut butter (protein) and think it helped me, at least TODAY!! ahah PR

OK, I did call the drugist, they had to call my Dr for a renewall for Medicare—used the last strip tonight, wasted one as I couldn't get enough blood squeezed out to make it work—-it was 143, and I am thru eating for the day, so will call the drugstore tomorrow to see if I can get more—now! Also will find out when to finalize my orders for that cat scan—-on Wed or thurs. the radiologist promised that she would get the order thru for me!! Praise the Lord, that someone out there cares enough to pursue what a questionable Dr didn't seem to want to follow thru with—-WHY???!!! I did talk to a nurse who works up there and she said that he could be hard-headed!! With a cancer patient?? That defies common sense!! She said that they had a new Dr., a woman, now and suggested changing to her——chhhheeezzz—-I would LOVE to have one Dr, one that I could TRUST!! Oh, well—-Pat R

My insurance company makes me use Liberty Medical. My doctor told me I didn’t need to test. I called my insurance company and the voice said to order diabetic supplies press number 3. I press number 3 and next thing I know I’m talking with someone from Liberty Medical. They asked me how much do you test. I told them 6 times a day. They asked me who my Doctor was and what’s his phone number. The following week I got enough testing supplies to last 3 months. I get a call about 2-4 weeks before I’m due to get more supplies and I tell them how much I want to test and they take care of everything. I don’t ever have to talk with my doctor about testing. Liberty Medical does it all for me. I don’t even have a co pay. Its great.

I go to the Accu-Chek web site and they have a program there where you can enter you meter reading and has graphs and all and when I go to the Doctor I print off a copy for him to look at so he can see what my numbers are, if he sees one that is too low or too high he will stop and ask what happened here.

Your blood sugar readings look great. I didn't see a low there. Unless you take insulin or a lot of meds, I wouldn't worry about lows unless you drop below 70.

Fasting 291

jayabee52
jayabee52 2010-02-13 19:47:32 -0600 Report

well, Rhonda, 291 is better than 300+, but not by much. Your doc knows about you running so high all the time? If not, it's time to let Doc know, cause that's not doing you ANY good at all! And if doc does know what does s/he propose to do about it? It might be time to go on insulin or byetta if oral glycemic meds aren't working for you. But that's gotta be a decision between you and doc.

But running BGs of 300+ is risking major complications. I pray you can get them down signifigantly SOON!
Blessings to you and yours

My fasting sugar was in the 200's this morning because I didn't check late enough in the night. I checked at 2am, but from the past week, I think I need to start checking around 4, whenever I checked then, that's when I noticed it go up.
My afternoon sugar was 91, Rock On!!
This evening it was 247. I didn't eat dinner but I had my fav sugar free frozen coffee, but I knew better, it still has sugar and mess with my sugars. I took my meds but took too much and it dropped down to the 30's. Now it's 91. Today was very unstable, but I have myself to blame. Tomorrow my sugars will be awesome!!! :)

Danni

30 is an extremely low reading. Very dangerous. My meter showed a 30 before and I retested and it was about 75. Sometimes the meters get the readings wrong. Either a false high or low. You need to retest whenever you get a very low reading. If after retesting it stays low you need to get it up fast. Real fast. Glucose tabs or juice should work. You just need to keep testing every 10-20 min. Until it gets back up above 70-80 or more.

Well, I hit 160 at 5pm, so took 1/4 Glipizide, now I WILL have to check as it can drop me so far, so fast!!
I am learning to also eat something extra to avoid that big drop, peanut butter on a rice cake, it only went down to 96, so went to bed and am fine this morn. Missed the morn BS , went to Wellness Center, dropped 2 # since yesterday(?) and at noon, my BS was 120. So I was thinking that maybe, just maybe, it would still be good once it thawed, cause those were my last two vials…sorry folks, no good! cheftype2
cheftype2 2010-02-10 12:11:30 -0600 Report

Hay your right i just read that the blood sugar goes up just before you wake up. It happens to be the body getting you ready to wake up. The liver throughs a shot of sugar into your blood stream to give you the energy to wake up. I have had the same issues with my son it was so frustrating when you do a 2oclock check and he was at 110 then wakes up at 220. It was what the heck is going on. Doctor says to check your sugar 20 30 min after you wake up to get a more accurate reading. just an idea it works for us, maybe it will work for you.

Looks like your doing great. Keep up the good work.

Once I started testing I found it easy to stop eating foods that spike my blood sugar. I don't take insulin or meds, so I keep tight control with diet only.

Once you know how different foods affect you, it should made it easier to adjust your insulin.

Remeber to Test test and test.
