My husband was just diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and we are struggling to find good snacks for him. He loves raw veggies but you can only eat so much of those. He does not like cheese or yogurt type products (I guess that is good) so hoping some of you might have some creative suggestions for him.

I found a wonderful way to add zip to plan water and still get vitamins ass well
Take an ice cube tray and place fruit in each of the holes I use blueberries strawberries blackberries then squirt in a little lemon or line juice top off with water freeze. Then pop on then your water plain or sparkling and enjoy I do this so I don't drink so much diet soda

Thank you everyone for your replies. I am going to suggest some of these ideas and check out the website!!! I am supporting my hubby by changing my diet also, however I don't have to watch it as closely, but still eating the same foods and when I grocery shop I am watching the labels to try and avoid bringing too much "bad food" into the house. One of your wrote that changing your eating habits isn't a sacrifice because it is forcing you to eat healthy also and I couldn't agree more!! It is also helping teach our children better choices and with childhood obesity on the rise I can't think of a better gift to give our children!! Thanks for all of your support here too!!

I'll look at the juice bars…like Bryer's juice bars, 15 to 20 carbs too. And their low carb and no sugar vanilla ice cream is low in carbs, and makes a nice root beer float with diet A & W root beer. Hubby and I will share them…

OMG-I haven't had a root beer float since I was a kid. Just might have to try that!!! Although it's -1 right now so maybe I need to wait a few months! Don't need anything that'll make me COLDER. :)

I love ice cream but can't have it in the house. (It keeps calling my name from the deep freeze…too hard to resist!) My favorite snack is Edy's frozen fruit bars: no sodium, no fat, and only 20 grams of carbs. I love the lemon; my husband likes the coconut or the lime. A nice before-bed snack: cold like ice cream, sweet and refreshing.

Hi Harley Chick ,

I'm in the same way with you.My husband has been diagnosed as prediabetic in Aug 09.We had the same problems in the beginning and I guess everyone had the same problem "what to eat" but this is a period that you can overcome in a short time.Since August we are having the same diet and I'm not eating any exception even I'm out and away from him. This is a team work that you can handle together. His snacks are usually ; fresh fruits , low-carb biscuits , home made light muffins , sometimes a toast with cheese , almonds , walnuts…He eats 9-10 times a day but always small portions.

Birdy, No one in my family has helped me out by following the same diet or anything of the sort. I think it's awesome that you support your husband like you do!!

Honestly I'm not thinking that what I'm doing is a big sacrifice cause what he has to eat is good and healthy foods and I'm also having my benefits by being on the same diet (low glycemic index diet). I lost 8 lbs since then…
Do not give up…Keep eating regular , good and healthy…
Good luck…

Knudsen has a product, "Cottage Doubles" I like…1/2 cottage cheese and 1/2 a fruit…same packaging with a divider between the two. I like peach best, also have strawberry, pineapple, and apples and cinnamon. Can't remember if I saw blueberry or not. Peach has 130 cal and 16 gm carbs. Also either apples and peanut butter or celery and peanut butter ( or cream cheese). "Fruit by the Foot" and cheese and crackers fit in purses…and Tropicana OJ 50% or Ocean Spray Cranberry Mixed DIET drinks. Good luck! S2

Hi, you can try this:
-cream cheese 2 tbs = 1-2 g carbs,
-cottage cheese 1/4 cup = 2g carbs
finely cut chicken breast meat, mix with the cheese, add finely chopped veggies (any kind) i like olives, peppers and onions, then roll in lettuce, steamed cabbage leafs or tortilla, or simply eat on crackers or whole grain bread,
