I had the DS procedure in August of 2004. Came off the insulin within a month. Came off the oral meds a few months later. There is a BIG commitment you have to be willing to make both pre- and post-operative. I lost over 200 at my lpwest PO weight. Today, due to my lifestyle choices, I regularly weigh about 230 and maintain a fasting BG of around 130. I exercise some, but not as much as I should. I control my carb intake theough diet. The best place to do your own research is at "obesityhelp.com" G'Luck…

This is something i have considered from time to time. I always convince myself not to do it. As stated above, it is dangerous, and requires a strict lifestyle change, with many possible complications. I think, that for many, they look at it as a "quick-fix", and don't realize what they are getting into.I know personally a couple who have had good results, but I look at their regime and don't think I could survive. If I was to do it, I would go lapband. Good luck.

its true its ur life and u have the last say. we can just talk about what little we know. but my friend d2 did the lab band about 5 yrs ago and months after she was doing great everything improved so far shes still doing good. shes had no complication no side affects no nothing. last yr her dr reduced all her meds because the higher dosage was actually doing her bad but before u do it just get all the facts right and then decide. its better save than sorry

It's my understanding that once you have diabetes you have it for life.
While losing weight would help, gastric bypass is a major operation. My doctor has asked me about it and I have refused. He has also asked if I would consider a LapBand and I have considered that too but so far I remain on the side of diet and exercise instead.
Be well informed about the pros and cons of these procedures before you do anything, please.
