Unfortunately the side effects of weight loss surgery are not fully understood. Some diabetics have great success and can eliminate pretty much all medication, some it has no effect at all and in a small number of people the surgery can CAUSE diabetes. It seems that maybe you fall into the last category. Unfortunately it's unknown why it happens that way to some, why some have great improvements in their diabetes and some have no noticeable change but they are doing a lot of studies at the moment so more info should come out over the next few years.

Hi all. I;m new to this site and I am very interested in what everyone has to say or what they know of this weight loss surgery. I think its amazing on how much you have lost. You should be very proud. My Doc would like me to have the by-pass surgery but I'm still not sure. Since your still taking insulin do you get nervous about exersising and low blood sugars?

well i think it also takes time for all the new changes and improvements to kick in. my friend d2 did the lap band about 5 yrs ago and she started seeing improvments just about 2 yrs ago. shes had no side affects of any kind just recently her dr reduced her meds because she had imporved alot. just give it some more time u never know. but do keep in mind that it will probably never go away but u can improve.

hi, that seems strange to me that it should happen to u. I have done much reaserch on the surgery and I myself will most likly hae the gastric sleeve … don't know if u know of it it is a newer procedure. All my Drs have said that most likley my diabeties would go away or be greatly improved.. what does the docter say?? I would like to congratulate u on your great job done. Many poeple who dont understand think it is an easy way out, but I totally disagree. I would love to speak more about it with u privately if u would not mind. I'm sorry that after all your hard work this happened to u. I'm sure in so many other ways u must be feeling so much better. Please be in touch I would love to know how u r doing ???
hugs dyanne

I had lost close to 100#s, and was /am still on insulin. I have since gained back around 65#s. Everybody is different. Congratulations on your loss, no matter how you are doing it. Welcome to the site, you will find many to help here.

You lost 200lbs and are at 260 now? You still weigh too much..for your sugar to go down. I weigh that much and am out of control. As much as that it so great…that you lost that much…Im not a Doctor…but I think thats why no change…you got 60 to 80lbs to go. I know people who had that surgery and their dibeties went completly away…but…they are at or near their ideal weight.
I want that surgery despretly bad..but my insurance wont pay…they would rather pay for all the tests and pills…and pills that they pay for and then dont work and I have to throw away..and all the other junk the doctors want to do and charge for…dont make much sence..does it?
