Need Your Help Beef vs Turkey

I have for many years now (even before I was told about my type 2 diabetes) used ground turkey meat instead of ground beef in my meals.
I like italian dishes and also use it in soups and other (beef sub)meals. I would like to hear your opinion Beef vs Turkey. Thanks in advance. Also I hope everyone had a wonderful Holiday and Happy New Year! :)

I found that the meat departments use a lot of dark meat in their ground turkey. That has a lot more fat etc that the breast meat. The breast meat can be a little dry so I add broth or water to it and it works just fine.

I do the same thing when I use lean beef (which is all the time) for hamb. or meatloaf etc. I just add a little water and it makes it more tender and moist.

My kids don't like turkey so this is one of the few times when I make a different meal. However, I buy 1/2 of a breast either pre-roasted or I brine and roast it myself. I use it for my lunch in sandwiches, soups, and salads. I always remove the skin off the serving portion. Organic and heirloom birds have less fat than commercially grown birds so if you want a moist bird you may have to add some type of fat.

Check the % of fat on your turkey package. Sometimes they leave the skin on instead of removing it to grind. If you have the butcher use a cut of meat from the display case, and remove the fat and skin, you know you have lean ground turkey.

Ever since I was told I had type 2, I've been eating more and more ground turkey. I like it cause you can sneak it past the kids and hubby and they don't even realize what it is. I like it cause you can prepare it so many different ways and makes a good nutritious meal.

For some recipes I find the turkey is a bit dry so for those recipes I use a mixture of turkey and beef or turkey and ground pork. Also coming from farming family where fowl were slaughtered right there on the farm, I have to be careful not to smell the raw ground turkey. The smell of it makes me sick to my stomach and then I can't eat the recipe I made with it. Weird, huh? Hubby laughs at me but he can't smell a dirty sock when it is right under his nose..LOL

Your turkey problem sounds like my liver problem. I love liver and onions and if I have to even touch it, I cannot eat it. I have a friend who is a great cook, I ask her to make liver and onions and I enjoy it with plantains.

I like turkey better. My husband makes good turkey chili and turkey patties which are very good. I have a hard time digesting beef.
