Books that have helped you since becoming Diabetic
My support group had a meeting recently and the
topic was What books have helped you since becoming Diabetic. Our members range from age 20-85. I thought I would ask all of my friends at DC to share.

I was just reading over a discussion I started and realized,
that I forgot to mention two books which I have had and been
referring to for years. The Joslin Guide to Diabetes and their
cookbook, The Joslin Quick And East Cookbook.
Spiritwalker your topic got me really thinking, Since I was diagnosed I have used my culinary training to decide on my dietary needs. As a trained chef I have lots of cookbooks to include some diabetic ones. So I started to review them in my head and among my pretties I found a book published in 1992 "Reader's Digest Live Longer Cook Book: 500 Delicious Recipes for Healthy Living." It has nutrition guide for all recipes (important for us), addresses nutrients -macro and micro. It is chock full of good information from cover to cover.
Thought it was no longer available, but Amazon.com has a few copies for under $15.00.
i would suggest blood sugar 101

I have a book from my management care professional. I forgot about that, it is a book isn't it.
I'm reading Bob Green's BestLife currently; Have been inspired by Dewayne McCulley's Death to Diabetes; Dr. Neal Barnard & Dr. Gabriel Cousen's books on reversal were very inspiring. By the way, we're holding our first diabetes support group in just two weeks: A Partnership Of Diabetics in Minneapolis. I would like to hear from you about what you do at your group meeting!
There is one book that really turned my life around. It is by Dr. Richard K. Bernstein; "Diabetes Solution". You can read a lot of it for free on his website:

Following his program I was able to stop all diabetic meds, and I lost over 70's in the process. That was 3 and a half years ago. I have been med free for over a year and a half now. If you want more information just add me to your friends list and I will email you.
I have not read any books about diabetes (honestly never thought about it) but I will check out the site you recommended.
Thanks for the offer Skip. I will take you up on it. I would like to see what this author has to offer and would love to get off my meds. If you need my e-mail address, let me know.
