Good thread Harlen - I am not good at new years resolutions as I do not keep them then I am hard on myself. I think I will try to eat less and watch my stress.

Not ready to give up bread but switching everything to wheat. and 1/2 slice. Going to watch my portions better. I am giving up my soda (all kinds) for my new years resolution and sticking more to chicken and turkey and fish. Don't eat pork anymore. Never counted carbs but going to start as I never was told about it. But you guys have educated me alot. Thank you so much. Don't know what I would do without you now. Kathy

I am giving up portions that are too large so that I can get my weight under control. Maybe, just maybe I will be able to reduce my meds. That is my ultimate goal.

Hey Harlen. I am giving up all sweets, and chocolate for a good time, maybe even longer than a year. Hope that helps keep my bloodsugar down. Good luck and Happy New Years.

Now see if I had to give up chocolate, well I just don't know what I would do. But I did give up chocolate ice cream. Does that count?

Stress levels are up right now. I'm helping care for a relative in
the late stages of brain cancer. I find that coming to this site and sharing helps me. I find if a can exercise at least one hour day I can keep my sugars level. My promise to myself is to
make sure I keep up the hour each day. Harlen good luck
with your resolution!

Three years ago when I was first diagnosed I gave up all grains(which includes corn). All starchy vegetables(peas, potatoes, carrots). Rice, pasta, sugar, and fruit. Down over 70 lbs, and intend to stay that way. No meds, and all numbers are great. Not easy, but well worth the effort. I am 61 years old, and can out work guys who are half my age at the print shop I work in.
No change will occur unless you want it to.

SkipT, those are all some of my favorite things. If I gave those up I would starve cause I am not a big meat protein fan. I admire you will power and discipline. Wish I had some. I don't give any food up, I practice portion control which works for me.

SkipT, do you take any nutrient supplement/s? Looking back at my food journal for the last 90 days I realize that I have been eating starchy carbs (except oatmeal for cholesterol) only twice a week and that did not even add up to 45 g of carbs for the week. Shoot me an e-mail with any ideas you may have that can keep me on the road to minimal carbs. I really think I can give up starchy carbs.

Hey Harlen,
I am going to try to give up stress! I found that to be one factor that really raises my blood sugar. I am also going to just watch my carbs in general better and exercise 3 to 4 days a week. I am hoping for a healthier year this year. Happy New Year!
