If you can't get your blood sugar under 300, you definitely should be calling your doctor. You certainly need an adjustment to your insulin dosage to bring those numbers down.

What were your levels before going on insulin? Your levels now are too high and most likely need adjustment with dosage. It does take some time to get the right dose, but you should get in sooner than later. How often do you test? That's very important, eat, then test to see how you react to that food. Everybody is different. How about your carb intake? Without more information, we all are just giving some basic advice. Good luck, and welcome to this site. Many friends here.

I agree, test,eat,test—-that helped me more—BUT THEN I NEVER HAVE HAD ANYTHING OVER 236!! Jeepers, over 500?? I would have passed out from shock, if nothing else. SEE a Dr—go to ER and let the chips fall where they may, BEFORE YOU do!! We ALL CARE!!! Pat R

300 - 500 is way too high. You are risking complications with your diabetes. I know it is difficult when you do not care for the dr covering for your dr. You need to make a call tho. Get some help somewhere.

As you get better control you will feel even better. It is very important to get better control, as the damage to the body is small and almost undetectable, damage is incurred when sugar level is high. I try to keep mine below 140. I don't always succede. It is a rule of thumb to seek medical assistance any time your sugar is at or above 500. At this point you are at risk for heart attack or stroke and keytone shock. I was hospitalized from keytone shock and woke up in ICU.
