Does anyone else have more information on Stinging Nettles" It is a local weed, found in gardens, pastures and ditches, and I changed to another picture of what it did to my right arm and hand and the left hand, too, the one that pressed the unfeeling weeds, at the time, into my hide as I carried them out to the trash barrel without gloves or long sleeved shirt! I have NEVER endured so much pain, itching, lack of sleep—of course—-I have already written more on the Fingernail posts—-but hesitated to even approach this topic as it probably has nothing to do with diabetis, BUT it sure has added to my STRESS LEVEL!! I have had the sores for 5 years, Diabetis for 3 years, diagnosed at 74 yrs, a bit late in life, I THINK!! But if stress contributed to my onset, this little topic can have the credit!! What in the world can a person use besides the Domboro soaks powder that is used for Posin Ivy, Poison Oak—-it does seep and stpread at times, have to spend 6 or 8 hours a day in order to keep it drawn out enough to STAND!! It started at 22-23 hours a day! I looked up the site suggested by one of our friends, agree with it, I do know where I got them, just having trouble getting them dried out and GONE No Drs believed me, thought I was just digging myself—NOT!! Have also seen 3 dermatologists—the same—-that about buried me alive!!!!! Thanks to any help!! PAt R

try amonia,as kids raised on a farm you could be running through tall grass and not know it until it was to late.know this might sound crazy this advice was given to us (me & my 6 cousins) by are Granny.Pee on it.Thought she might had slipped a gear or something,at the grand age of 6 how could this older woman know more than us?? Next time one got me on the leg,u would be suprised how pain effects any logic of a wise age of 6.But it worked.I know I spelled it wrong but u should be able to cypher it out.Its the amonia

Oh, THANK YOU!!! I got it and will try it on a small spot!! You know, I think that it is the wise, older generation, that has the cure!! Modern science is at a loss—-and Clorox in dish water, can take out the sting for awhile too—now that sounds contradictory but it must be the chemical reactions——SALTS do NOT work but the Domeboro powder for the soaks, does—it is an older remedy too. I will try it on a small area-. Thanks! Pat R

Also a mild mix of VINEGAR water—-made it too strong one time——I have cooked some old fashioned oats and am going to try that this eve—it eases up—off and on the past few days—but started burning badly last night, had to get up and fix a poutice for my right hane then stuck it in a plastic bag—-can't be too tight as it gets HOT and makes it worse. Thanks to all—on Mon will pursue more—-will try the ammonia first—-what was that about urine? I didn't read that—

Later and THANKS!! If anyone else gets into it, give me a ring on this site. I have pages on my PC of my experiences, was thinking of donating a copy to the library for any other poor souls who get into it as no Dr seems to know. Thanks again, pat r

Did you mean to PEE on it, or was it that you had a GRanny Pee?? I watched a session of Survivor years ago, when they were on an island, and someone did pee on a bite of some fish, or such on his foot——-and it did help! I have tried the cooked oatmeal, last night—-probably not the same as an oatmeal bath—it gradually started to burn after about 15 mins so gently washed it off, then made a poultice out of wet rag, and the Domeboro powder. This morning they are BETTER!! So may put some more on later to really see—-Will try the things suggested every few days to see if one works—-Thanks!! PR`

So sorry to hear that didn't work for you and that it burned, Pat! :) Are you going to try to locate an integrative Dr. in your town? P.S. urine is effective for a jellyfish sting-don't know about anything else.

It might be working!! This has been a work of progress over 5 years, it takes time to know for sure if anything works, that is why I saved the oats and will apply again after I get off here. THANKS—-PR

Pat, I have heard of them, but have never seen them. Maybe they're not in North Carolina-don't know. That looks extremely painful! Have you tried soaking your arm in an oatmeal bath to soothe it? Or a cold compress might help. A homeopathic doctor may be able to help you. Good luck, dear! Renee :)

Thank you, Renee!! Probably some homeopathic method would probably do more for it than what I have been treated with! In all fairness to Drs., I had 13 shots, one daily, of Levequin—I think—a high powered antibiotic IV, anyway, that Dr was TRYING—but I had to see his PA one day for something for pain, and he tried to tell me that I had HANGNAILS!! After that, the regular Dr turned cold too—-

They did try cortisone shots, helped a bit——but no one would stay with me until it was really cleared—-it would improve, then any lotions or creams, antibiotic or whatever, would make it worse, it was like it was being FED, would then swell, turn a bright read and BURN, ITch almost past my endurance. They took 2 biopsies but found only dead, calous hide—-after a healing process of sorts, BUT the places they dug into got WORSE< kept reinfesting itself, drain, deeper and on down into the BONE!! Now that is where the REAL pain was—-I BEGGED for pain shots, I have NEVER done that before—-At least I have it drained and dried to the point now where it is at least bearable—-but have had to start taking pain pills again—-I will NOT hesitate to start begging for PAIN SHOTS again, if I HAVE TO!! My spirits have been so crushed I really HATE to open myself up to more emotional pain, but am feeling better in that respect, and think that now, I could stand my ground without being hateful——

Imight try the oatmeal, that has not been used yet, mostly their creames which have always seemed to aggravate it—tried about 12 different ones, Dr prescribed—forgot and the other day I used Neosporin again! WOWOW!!!!! That seems to have started the whole process over again, at least it is still on my right knuckles and palm—-

Than you so much for answering!! That means as much as anything!!!! Pat R

Okay, I understand now that the key is keeping it dry, right? Has any of the doctors said that you are taking an unusually long time to heal because of the diabetes, or is it normal for the healing process to be this drawn out? Is the pain a burning sensation or something else? It's too bad that the doctors are not sympathetic. I have heard of stinging nettle being used in Chinese medicine as a remedy for stuff. A homeopathic doctor could possibly help you-what do you have to lose! Please keep us updated on your condition-Renee

Thanks for your input—-I do not bring it up to Drs anymore—-I think that I ran the extent of their knowledge, then they decided it was "all in my head'! NOT!! They waid that I was NOT allergic to them—-?? All of their treatments have either failed or made it worse, they got so they would not converse with me on the subject. So I will try here—

I have seen RECIPES to COOK them and then EAT THEM, but I don't believe that I will even TRY THAT ONE! haha—I have read only bits and pieces on the nettles—how horribly they itch and burn, so think that has nothing to do with my having acquired diabetis later on. I also HEARD that in the old days, if a child got into them, the mom would take a handful and deliberately rub it into them to take the itching OUT!! well, this gal thinks THAT is a CROCK! I do not see how in the world that would help anything!

There are several stages, at first they ITCH, deeply—-a bump may arise, when scratched, it contains an acid like substance that will run into the crevices of fingers etc—and start a whole new area. My problem was that I pulled the weeds, you do not feel the hairs on the stems at the time, only later—-too late—- and PUSHED them down into my hide as I carried them back out to the trash barrel—so THINK that is one reason they got so imbedded into my system in the first place. The few others I have found that BRUSHED by them, just itched and burned, one man had been mowing an area by a fish pond—with NO SHIRT etc on, just his sandals and shorts. He itched and burned for a month and nothing would relieve it, it finally faded away, but he just brushed them, where I pressed them into my flesh. My whole arm seeped, mostly just to an adjoining area, but then it seems to get into your system—-I have WATCHED white pillars of STUFF GROW out of certain parts where that fluid would run—and water and soap, do not wash it off—it just kinda sets up. I ran out to our local Dr in so MUCH PAIN—-she said that it was white like a yeast infection, rubbed at it with a paper towel/soap and water, and the little white pillars just stayed right there and continued to BURN like FIRE!! She then got a sample of cream for yeast infections, and IT PUT OUT THE FIRE, so to speak.

Trouble is, I don't know what it was, she had to leave the hospital because of differences—-so had no recourse there, went to another hospital and started over, but the issue changes—-I got dirt on the inside of my finger tips, one time, was trying to work in my garden a Bit—-turned my hands over and there were little white specks starting to GROW on the pads of my fingers!! I still had some of that sample, so used it and after 3 days, it cleared up, only to take shape in other areas. Where I put pressure on pulling, the weeds, like at the bases of my fingers, the right side of my hand that depressed the weed deeper, were worse, would seep, dry, peel, then start over, took about 7 or 8 times to soak the stuff out dry enough, to clear up—-then another area would break out, like it was in my system—and I have just never been able to get it all dried out and STOPPED!

To warn others, the weed is grayish, and in the fall has these neat looking little Japanese-looking lanterns, the seeds—that I always waited to turn a pretty orange, I had seen a flower like that, but these never turned, stayed green. NEVER, NEVER touch them with bare hands—I would NOT WISH this on ANYONE!!

Frankly I began to think that it was all in my head, I must have been a bad, bad, little girl!!!! But I have worked thru that, I am not any "badderthan anyone else—am trying to stay positive/ laugh—but it sure is hard!

Do you know how to get in touch with a homeapathic Dr? PR

Okay, Pat try the ammonia and urine remedies. Try the ammonia first and give it time, maybe days, and if no improvement, try the urine. If the poster has any more info about how to apply these, could you please let Pat know. Sometimes, old home remedies are better or just as effective as medicine. You want to find a doctor of integrative medicine. Look under Physicians in yellow pages and then Integrative. It is not listed as such in my phone book so yours may be the same. You can try an online search for one in your area. If that produces no results, try looking under health food stores in yellow pages (it should be listed under this or health products, etc.) and call them and ask if they know of an integrative doctor in your area. Some of these people are very knowledgeable or atleast have heard of local doctors who practice homeopathy. Do not give up! I know there is relief for you and please keep us posted on your progress. Lots of Love, Renee :)

Pat, I tried to call the one homeopathic Doc in my town (who I have seen in the past) to try to get help for you but his office is closed until Jan. 4th. Let me know if you can't find one and I will call mine back next week and see what he suggests. :)
