Snickers is a Glycemic Index of about 55 I believe…so the hype is that its Low on the glycemic index lol…its a slower absorbing carb…BUT..still carbs non-the-less…So its not a good choice for a low blood sugar but perhaps if its the only thing around and your stuck in the wilderness (lol) will get you by without a ginormous spike to then plummet from…I think this kind of advertising is pretty low and takes advantage of people…Its a slower absorbing carb but still not a healthy or preferrable choice…

Be well :)

Geez, the only thing I could imagine him thinking in that report is that chocolate is not a good food to use if someone is having a low. The fat content in a candy bar, specially one like a Snickers, is very high and will make the rise generally slower, but it will be there. That is why you give a person having a low something fast acting like juice or a hard candy that's all sugar like a life saver. Other than is all a dream.

That reporter definately did not have correct info. Even meat turns to sugar. That is why we are supposed to have so little of it.

ps…good job for double checking here with the ppl you know you can trust.

giojuju…if your BG gets low, you could eat a small size one{snickers}, and see if it will bring your BG up…I know that it will…regards packrat2

Hi everyone,
I know this is serious but I just laughed reading all your replies. Thank you for the laugh! :)
I too am a chocoholic. I am not very good at resisting it either. My New Years Resolution is definitely going to have to do with chocolate! Sugar alcohol that is in sugar free candy is just as bad if not worse than the regular sugar! So sad.

How I wish! But unfortunately, everything with carbs will elevate our glucose to some extent. That was originally a good thing, since we got the necessary energy for living. Our pancreases got screwed up and now don't make enough insulin, or we become tolerant of it so that we end up too high.

It could one of 2 things that I could think of
1: it is either a very gullible reporter

or 2: a very sadistic one who reported that.

Might you have a link to that story so we might read it to detect which it is?

i have been looking for link to it but i guess they thought about what they said and no more evidence about it. it was on fox news here in dallas tx.

I have always been addicted to chocolate, especially snickers. When I crave chocolate I will have a few "dark" chocolate chips mixed with nuts and a few dried cranberries or dried cherries. It's not snickers but it does satisfy the craving.

There are some foods so low in carbs that we don't even need to count them. (in moderation) but there is nothing you can eat that won't affect your blood sugar. Chocolate, even sugar free chocolate, is one of the worst. I hate that because I'm a severe chocoholic. I have to pretend I don't see all those yummy chocolate bars at the supermarket checkouts. And near Easter, some Sadist just has to put out those irresistable Cadbury's Creme Eggs. I try to have somebody else do my shopping then. My sticky fingers just won't leave those alone. But Snickers are nearly as bad. If you can read a label without eating the bar, you'll see a very high carb count. I don't have one handy but it's probably about 35 grams of carb in a regular sized bar. That's more than a good-sized meal with very little nutritional value. I have no idea of the glycemic index but it's sure to be terrible. Believe me, I'm not laughing at you, I'm suffering with you.

Anything but water has carbs in it ! Carbs effect all of us.
It would be great if someone could invent something eatable
that doesn't effect blood glucose levels. Dream on.

heck no!!!!!!!! lol! I have to walk tthe other way in the store so I don't see them. I like them too.

Harlen 2009-12-28 18:57:05 -0600 Report

And I love them and can have a little one from time to time but still need to cover for it
Ruel of thumb if it has carbs it will make your bs go up lol
Best wishes
