Every time I enter a restaurant they have at least six different sugar drink choices ,but only one sugar free selection. I always make sure to mention this to the manager. If you feel like I do, you should so the same. Maybe one day soon, we will have more choices.

The machines that dispense (and mix) the soda syrup with carbon dioxide only have a limited number of slots, and what a restuarants sells, as mentioned by others, depends on how much they sell of each product. Contracts are written for mostly selling Coke or Pepsi though the Dr Pepper has a hold in many markets. Cleaning machines daily is a mess and if a storekeeper installed too many products he would have additional labor costs for cleaning them as well as maintaining several inventories.

However, our demands and desires should be shared with the shopkeepers so they know that if a product were available we'd eat/drink it. Many restuaranteers have gone to the trouble of putting low-calorire, low carb, and low fat items on the menu but the tope sellers continue to be high-fat items. Several of my work sites have been running food services in public schools. When I placed more wholesome food items on the menu they didn't sell as well as pizza, chicken strips, hot dogs, and hamburgers. And in these days, the school food operation has to make at least break even. This is difficult due to labor cost of the employees as well as low participation.

Actually I live in the Chicago area, and just about all of the Mexican restaurants offer Diet-Rite. Also a rib joint called "The Patio" actually has diet coke and diet pepsi in regular version and no caffine recipe. I think you should start mentioning this the the place you eat at. The squeaky wheel gets the grease.

Restaurants offer mainly diet Coke or Pepsi because they are national and international brands. While others may be well know, ie Sprite, 7UP, Dr. Pepper, most people seldom think of the "diet" version of these drinks, so they are usually not as profitable as the Coke and Pepsi. It comes down to profitability.

For me, I love diet pepsi/coke. I can do pretty well at home not drinking any soda, but eating out i give in to the temtation. Of course the best choice is water, but we don't like to hear that. crystal lite makes these single serving pouches that you could bring and add to the water for a great tasting drink substitute. GEE, I should take my own advice! I think I will try to remember that next time out. Happy New Year.

Dont forget that most of them will also serve Ice Tea. I hate that now McDonalds has sweet tea. If I ask for Ice tea and make sure I tell them that its without sugar that I taste it before I go, because half of the time they give me sweet tea. Ugg.

I do understand just what your talking about FloridaGuy, why is it like that in this day and time? We've come a very long way. Everybodys counting calories or something trying to become healthy. Hopefully soon it will get better. I don't drink pop any more, but I would like them to add real fruit juices 100% to menus, so we can at least have choices. Good point FloridaGuy~!!!
