I was diagnosed 2 yrs. ago with type 2 diabetes I went for pre-op labs and my dr. wants to see me after my knee replacement surgery around 8-9 of Jan. As my diabetes is out of control. I was hoping to qualify for a new meter as mine gave up the ghost but dont qualify as I am not on medicare and my insurance wont cover and just cant afford any right now. So I guess I am going to have to start over with right foods and everything. So I need help. If she puts me on insulin which pretty sure she will then I am I then a Type 2? Cant exercise as in process of 2nd knee replacement. I asked on freecycle in our are for stationary bike with shore shanks but no luck. Any advice be appreciated.

I am new to this site so any advice would be good?

Iroquois - You may not be able to do weight bearing exercises due to your knee situation but that doesn't mean you can't exercise. There are all sorts of chair exercises (all you need is a sturdy, straight back chair). Best wishes!

I have an extra meter I would be glad to send you but I don't have any strips to go in it. If you would like I would be glad to send it to you.

Good luck on your knee replacement. I had a friend who had it about 10 years ago, she was in her late 60's and had wonderful success.

Also, if you look on the back of your meter there is a 1-800 number to call about your meter. You can call that number and ask for an updated meter and you should get one free.

Good luck with the surgery. I had my left knee done last 7/14. Still in pain and rehab. I have to have my right knee done too but I do not like all this pain after surgery part.

I know, it is the pitts for low income people. You wouldn't ask it you didn't need it as how many people would ask for a meter if you are not a diabetic? Thank you for visiting with me, Kathy

I don't like to plug specific stores, but Walgreens will sell you a meter for 9.99 and will give you a rebate coupon for 9.99 making the meter free.

If you call AccuCheck they send you a free one without qualifying for anything…they dont charge you or your insurance…they just check with your doctor who signs a form saying you are a diagnosed diabetic and its on its way :)

I just upgraded mine…my insurance would cover one but there's no need to submit, they send free with a diagnosis…

Of course they want your strip business so that is the incentive… :-/
