Should you have a snack before bed even if your not hungry? Just to reassure your blood sugar levels stay normal thru the night.

Do you take medications or insulin? Most people don't have to worry about going low during the night, it's only with certain medications and insulins. More people have problems going HIGH during the night.

Just was found out in Oct 2009 that Im type 2, so the doctors are having me exercise and change my diet. I go back to doctor on monday.

If you are not taking any meds as yet, I don't think you have to worry about snacking before bed. I would worry more about eating before bed and making your fasting blood sugars high in the morning. Good luck at your appointment.

so your not on any meds yet? they are just cking to see if your a type two? I would suggest they test well cause I was told I was a type two and now apparently Iam a type one, I go back to the doctor on the 22nd.

my doctor told me Im type2, and I need to get it under control before it goes any further or higher. So I was told to diet and exercise, so thats what I've been doing. I eat different, I exercise I've lost some weight too. So I will see what happens when I return to the doctor on monday.

why would I want my fasting bloodsugars to be high. Should'nt they be in a normal range to be good?

kdroberts 2009-12-16 07:38:40 -0600 Report

Right but if you have a snack before bed you run the risk of waking up high which is why right now eating before bed might not be a good idea.

I was told at my diabetes education classes that if you didn't snack after dinner, that was best. If you felt you needed something to make wise choices like the apple slices with peanut butter, a piece of cheese, etc.
I try not to eat at night which is very hard, but when I do my blood sugar is always higher.
Keep trying different strategies as far as snacks at night. See what works for you. We are all different. Your morning blood sugar reading will tell you what is good and what isn't for you.
Good Luck, take care.
