My doctor told me last week that I am border-line diabetic at 6.0. What does he mean by "border-line" I figure I am or I am not diabetic. And what does 6.0 mean

My last A1C (3 months ago) was 5.9. I have been pre-diabetic for 10 years and was diagnosed T2 a year ago when my glucose tolerance test was over 300. For 6 months, I took 3 oral meds to control my BG. I am now down to 2 meds with the lowest dose. Hopefully, I'll go down to just 1. My doc told me that I will be diabetic for the rest of my life. But I know some friends who are borderline diabetics and are now off medication. They control their BG with lo carb diet and daily exercise.

I am type 1 and mine on my last Dr. visit was 6.5. She wants it to be 6.5 or lower and that is the lowest it has been since I was diagnosed. I know I don't always eat the right foods, and I don't get enough exercise. But I am going to try and do better.

Probably the 6.0 is your A1c which is percentage of your red blood cells that are bonded to sugar. Normal A1c's would be in the mid 4's to low 5's.

Borderline diabetes is really not a term used anymore since it really doesn't mean anything. I would suggest you ask for a fasting glucose test and then if that is high, an oral glucose tolerance test. You may be pre-diabetic which basically means your blood sugar regulation isn't normal but you are still able to keep it out of the danger level.
