Hello everyone my name is Randall Redbrother, I am new to the site. I was diagnosed as in 1980 at the age of 9 with type 1 diabetes. And I remember my 2 week stay in the hospital, and the nurse telling my momthat the meter, to test my blood sugar was gonna cost $700.00, yes that was the price back then, thanks to technology it has came down to free meters(THANK GOD). I remember going to washington, dc as a teen and talking about the cost of healthcare for type 1 diabetics. Nothing has change except that there are a lot more diabetics today. The best advise I recieved was during my 2 week stay, my doctor told me that I could eat whatever I wanted, but it had to be in moderation, and I needed to exchange a few items on my menu, also go outside and play. I still manage my diabetes, and haven't had a regular doctor in 20 years maybe. But when I need to see one I do visit. I really can't afford healthcare, so I have to be my own Doctor.
Check those blood sugars daily, eat in moderation, and Go Outside and Play! Happy Holidays.

Hello, Im so glad that glucose meters have come such a long way from where they use to be. It's so much more options out their now for all of us to be able to chose from. I hear you loud and clear outside is the best place to be. Happy Holidays to you too, and yes THANK GOD for the small blessings all around.
