Came across this site today. Don't know how to use this site yet. Might need some help.
I have been a diabetic for 48 years. Diagnosed at the ago of 11. I'm looking for others that have had diabetes for a long time.

Welcome. You will be able to navigate this site in no time. Everyone one on here is like family. Like most have said, if you have any questions or concerns, don't be afraid or embarrassed to ask. We are all here to help each other. It was a blessing for me when I happened across this site. Wonderful people here. I have not been a diabetic long, just a yr., and 1/2, and dx type 1 at the age of 60 so I can't offer any information with regard to long term, but there are many on here, who can offer advice and support to you.

I applaud you for all that you have had to handle in the "old days" I remember what it was like when my son was diagnosed 15 years ago and sticking a small 5 y.o. with those longer needles and the lancets… don't get me started on those lancets. But you have braved through even more then us. I hope you stay healthy without complications. Knowing that people have endured for so long it gives me a lot of hope. Went to a JDRF board meeting last night and JDRF is working on mico-needles, smart insulin and of course the artificial pancres. Let's hope for the cure but in the mean time all the new devices are just wonderful.

Sounds like we have so much to be thankful for!! Reminds me of my grandma Bertie——she had pernicious anemia and had to eat ground RAW liver in tomato juice every day! ARGH_____—She wasn't diabetic, and she died at 83 years, outlived half of her 18 kids and 3 husbands, they all died, no divorces—-guess I had a mighty tough little grandma!! She was the one who cooled her red, burning legs by sticking them into the new refrigerater that her son bought her when she was in her late 70's!! I was 16 yrs——"GRANDMA!!""" But it didn't phase her, she was a spirited Dutch/Irish woman! And she probably would have handled diabetis with the same spirit! ha—PR

I add my Welcome to you! I am 77 yrs and was borderline for over 50 years, but the last 3 years I went over the borderline stage, but it hasn't been over 236 , was on Metformin, developed kidney cancer, so they switched me to Glipizide, but it seems to be too much, am keeping close track but am wondering if I am finally getting the diet and exercise down to where I might not need it, but won't take any chances, still stay away from obvious things, straight choc/ SWEET candies—-have gotten so I don't even miss them too much.

I know that I don't fit the description of what you are looking for, but that is my humble story. Welcome! Pat R
