I have notice that if I eat a bowl of cereal before I go to bed that my blood sugar is lower than if I do not eat anythig after lunch.I have type 2 diabetes. Has anyone else noticed this. I talked with my Dr. about it and he said if it works do it.

Sugar is tricky. It's up & down. One day you can eat a snack late and your sugar is good & do the same the next day and your sugar is low it's a merry go round.

I feel that this has happened to me before too. Most of the time it helps me to eat a snack.

What kind of cereal do you eat? Every kind I try raises my sugar but I love it so so much!

Hi Ralph ,

My hubby is prediabetic and I'm following his exact diet with him to support. And we also eat 1-2 slice of bread and some cheese before bed.I remember I used to feel dizzy in the mornings ( my blood pressure is always low) before he was diagnosed and we start this diet. Now I'm noticing that my morning dizziness almost gone away.

hey ralph-
yes this happens with me also. it has to do with your liver. when you don't snack before bed your body thinks it needs more sugar for energy so your liver begins to dump some of the sugar stored there, often more than need be so you end up with an elevated bg in the morning. a simple snak of protein and a carb such as peanutbutter crackers is excellent to help give lower fasting bg inthe morning. i hope that helps to explain it to you some.
best wishes

It was so funny when I say your name, I have a younger brother named Ralph. Anyway back to your question yes this happens to me also when I eat a bowl of cereal at night. I usually have cereal a small bowl or some fruit delmonte sugar free before bed. For some reason I tend to get hungry thru the night. Does that ever happen to you?

sometimes I wake up very hungery and I have to get up and get a snack. I took diaberes training at the local hospital when I was first diganosed and they told me I needed to make sure and eat small meals throughout the day. My Dr. told me that my liver could be putting some glucose into my system if it does not get it from my stomach. The classes helped a lot and I recomend them to anybody which has diabetes or their family members so they could better understand what diabetes is all about.

Thats very good information, thank you for sharing. When I go back to the doctor later this month I have lots of questions thanks to this site. Because I've been so informed and feel much better taking care of my diabetes.
