Months ago I approached author Rochelle Stern about a children's book that had gone out of print. At the time, it was the only book I could find geared specifically for children whose parents had diabetes.

Rochelle's book, "Can Mom Have a Piece of my Birthday Cake?" was written after she was diagnosed with diabetes as a teaching tool for her own children. The book offers an easy to read format with activities for children ages 4-9.

Because demand went down, the book went out of print. However in August she made available a downloadable copy for readers with a promise of actual books being made available by November. Last night I received an email from Rochelle stating that the hardcopy was now available. I am so excited to announce that you can once again get a hardcopy of her book to share with your children!

This would make a perfect Christmas present for your children, teachers, and those who live with someone who has diabetes. Please pass this information along to them!

For me, it's very personal that we get this book made known to others. This was the ONLY book I could find on the internet when my husband had a serious reaction that explained diabetes and what it meant to a child whose parents had diabetes. I know how important a role this book will play in my family's life. Grab your copy for your school library, your home library or for friends or family who would benefit from it.

The book is available through her website at DiabetesInTheFamily.com, or by sending a check for $18 with your name and address directly to the author here:

Thanks Rochelle!

If only I had something like that when my daughter was little! It's wonderful for the parents to be able to educate children about diabetes, since many of them are being diagnosed as type 2 as activity is decreasing, and junk food is increasing!

Wow! Great book with good ideas, I think every household with a person with diabetes should have this book. It s a good resource for the children to learn from.

Thank you for the information! My almost 4 year old has been asking me alot of questions lately about what I eat and why I give myself shots. I hope this will help him, and eventuallly his younger brother understand better!
