Just need encouragement! Lily just turned 5 Nov 3rd. All kinds of signs showed their ugly heads. Her mother (my daughter) tested her initally at home & it was obvious, all we needed was official notification. My main concern is she is only 34 lbs, will she gain weight?

I was diagnosed when I was 11 months old, and that was back when you had to sharpen the needle of your glass syringe with a whetting stone! They were concerned that I was not growing properly for a long time, but I'm taller than my mom, and as tall as my younger sister who is not diabetic! Give her little body time, it is having to make a lot of adjustments. Good luck and best wishes, that's a tough age to work with at any point in time!

Wow, I enjoyed reading your post, Crashnot—-It makes one thankful for not having to go thru that at such an early age, cuddos to your MOM, then the syringe thing was so interesting—-I didn't realize how they used to do that and to know that you are taller than your sister who doesn't have Diabetis! That should be comforting to Lillys granny. Yeah to all who have helped with this disease/coping, scientists in their studies and the folks who have personal stories to contribute!!

It is tough when little ones develop anything—-but they adjust faster than we sometimes do—-our last 2 children were allergic to ALL FOOD AND Milk for their first 3 years, not sure why, but anything would cause 20 to 30 BM;s a day/night—long story, but they grew out of it and are mostly fine today, just need to watch some foods. No, they do NOT have diabetis, but since mine turned up at 74 yrs. guess it is something that they need to watch for, a lot of diseases are appearing at earlier ages, it seems—-Best of Luck and I know that she will do fine when she gets a pattern of care developed! Give her a SWEET HUG!! PR

Hi, Im like Harlen, once she gets on the meds she needs she will gain weight. And a good nutritional daily menu. I think she will be just fine in time.

Harlens right, she needs the proper medical care and of course you and mom will learn something new each day. My great nephew was diagnosed at age 4 and is now 12 yeasrs old. He has his ups and downs but he does ok. Our prayers will be with the grandbaby. I am sure with both mom and your love and support things will work out. Take care friend. I
