Type 1 diabetic brittle bgl's suffered lows, with passing out episodes, switched to pump for four years{ w/humolog carb counting }took care of lows, but levels never seemed to level out. A month ago, went into DKA.They took me off the pump and put me on sliding scale with Lantus & Humolog. BGL's look great but I have been passing out, this is Not good! Will check my levels, they appear normal but if I fall off to sleep it starts to creep down.Perhaps I need to discuss with the doctors if the night dosage shoud be less? This insulin combination seems so sensitive, or perhaps there is something else I should do.
Would like feed back with any experience with this.
Thanks !

The key here is to keep adjusting your dosages and your carb counting to get them right. If your Lantus dose is right and you're matching the carbs you eating with the proper amount of Humalog, then you will stop having the low blood sugar episodes.

Testing before and after meals (and at about 1 a.m. for a few nights in a row) will give you and your doctor the information you need to make the proper adjustments. Keep at it.

I have been there twice, I started out on shots, then went to the pump, but here's an idea to try to get you thru the nights, try eating a small amount of carbs at bedtime, that helped me with the night time lows. also keep some glucose tablets by the bed for the lows, just in case. I use to keep saltines by my bed, bout 2-4 should bring you up enough but not too high. Good luck

Thanks Terry…
Think I need to adjust the timing right for the carbs before retiring.Have my tablets and liquid to raise the levels.I do need to talk to the Endo crew about this. Just tying not to be totally frustrated after the hospital experience w/o insurance syndrome.I think I need to time this snack correctly.I check my GBL,it will be fine then it just falls down…
This is a terrific site!

Thanks Harlan !
I was on the pump they took me off, it has been awhile since dealing with sliding scale, thats why I went on the pump. You are right I intend to talk to the endo crew soon along with trying the carbs before sleep.
All the best to you.
