I saw my therapist/NP Monday. I told her how I was feeling (besides depressed). For over a week I was waking up at night quite a few times in a pool of sweat,I would have to take my shirt and wipe my face, that is how bad it was, hair soaked, lite p.j's soaked. She started asking me questions about it,finally she said she had to "Task" my Doctor about this as she thinks it was signs of me going into severe "hypo" episodes. I hadn't even left her office when the Doctor himself called my phone!! He said to stop the metformin right away, and to make an appointment w/him asap! I was surprised as I have not had a Doctor call me themselves!! About an hr. later the nurse called, made an appointment yesterday @ 2pm,very next day after this went down.
I went to my appt. yesterday, he said that he had hoped I stopped the metformin right away,I told him I did. He stated that unfortunately after getting message from therapist he realized he had given me too high of a dose to start off w/of the metfornim and I was having severe "hypoglycemic" episodes, he said he wanted me in right away to fix the problem as he was worried he was making me sick w/the mistake on dosage!! The Doctor put me on 500mg. of metformin once a day for now he said,he looked at my chart again and mentioned the "121" fasting, and other numbers that were documented. He finally stated that it was very tough to say if I am indeed type 2 diabetic right now or not, also stated that soon I will have full blown type 2 diabetes. I was prescribed a freestyle lite meter, strips, and, lancets!! He wants me to test twice daily, and, more if I am not feeling right. I was also told that I could call and make an appointment w/a nurse who would teach me about the meter and about diabetes. He was very nice yesterday, let me ask questions and tell him how I was feeling, finally!! I think this was only because he realized he had made a mistake on my medication and was afraid something worse could have happened, also the fact that when he heard how sick I was,w/the bad night sweats,trembling,etc..(was only 65 in house at night!) I think he took a little more interest in reading my chart!
All in all I think because the Doctor made a mistake on dosing w/ the metformin, he took more interest in looking at the whole picture as to what was wrong and finally looked at what was right in front of his nose!!
