In lieu of Halloween

I had a great idea while driving home tonight…at least I think it is a great idea. lol There are so many folks who have diabetes themselves or someone in their household has diabetes. Wouldn't it be wonderful if those people donated what they would have spent on candy to diabetes research? Maybe a special sign could be placed on their door so trick or treaters would know what they did in place of passing out candy. I hate to even have candy in my house because I can't stay away from it. So, Halloween is very hard. I know children ( and many adults) love Halloween, but for us diabetics, it just isn't the same, is it? Parents could explain to their kids why there is no candy at those houses. I would like to celebrate the day doing good rather than contributing more sugar to kids diets.

We don't get trick or treaters we live in the boon docks or in the woods as the kids say. We use to get money from a lady when we were kids. Tammy

unfortunately last year we did not have very many kids come by had a bunch of candy left over so i ate it(before i was diagnosed but had diabetes already) so this year sadly did not participate and turned of my lights did not buy any candy and nobody knocked on my door. Did not want to be tempted to eat some I knew i probably would)

That a very good idea! And I never thought of passing out pencils and erasers instead of candy treats, that sounds like lots of fun. Those are things the kid's can really use.

It is a great idea but you can pass out pencils or erasers instead so at least the younger set who won't understand what you are doing will still get something and be happy. Besides the things I mentioned are very cheap.
