Ok, as diabetics we all need our eyes checked. I go at least twice a yr especially since I can't be my numbers under control. My opthomalogist who was a wonderful man checked my eyes in March. I told him in my left eye in what seemed to be in the lower left area almost behind my eye I kept seeing flashes similar to when a bright light is flashed in your eyes. I went back a few months later and found out he had cancer but was still seing patients. I was still having the same issues but he still didn't find anything wrong. He did check for diabetic retnopothy(sp?) I made a third appointment with his partner and when I got there found out my optho had died that morning and the partner was very shaken. He also found nothing wrong. I still have been seeing this light and more frequently. I'm getting nervous. Do you think I should find a new optho.? I feel odd going back for a 4th time this year.

I think you really need to focus on getting your sugar under control. I was always concerned with diabetic retinopathy. Guess what? That is not the only thing high sugars will do to your eyes. Back in September I was diagnosed with cataracts. When I questioned the diagnosis I was told that uncontrolled sugars can cause the form of cataract I have developed and glaucoma. How's your BP? That can cause some visual fireworks too. If you are not comfortable with your doc then by all means get a second opinion. Good luck to you.

In all honesty I would be more concerned with finding out why you can't get your numbers under control. It's normal for your eyes to be off track if your numbers are too. Are you on diabetic medication? Seeing a regular medical doctor for the diabetes? What is your ac1, do yanno? But really I personally think your diabetes needs to be checked into, but then again I am no doctor. lol Good luck, best wishes…please keep us updated hun. Hugs! Sheila

Sorry to hear about your eye doctor. But thing's do happen for a reason, and I don't see why you shouldn't get a second opinion I would to be safe and happy. Doctors are human they too can miss little things.Don't second guess yourself just do it for yourself see another doctor. And hopefully everything will be just fine.
