These seizures only happen when sugar goes below 35. I do not have epilepsy. I am waiting for my insurance company to approve a new MedTronic Insulin Pump for me, it is the one worn with a continuos glucose monitor that will shut off for 2 hour and stop delivering insulin at a number say(70) . This should help me a lot . I pray. This is a draw back that I find when you as a Diabetic are in good control of your diabetes, I can no longer feely lows coming on at all. I still would like to know though if I am unconious for hour am I just that or I in a coma? This last one I bite on my tongue and I am having a hard te eating because of the damage to the tongue and swelling. How long or how low do you have to be to go into a coma?

Hi, I am new to this site yet not to Diabetes itself. I am type 1 and have had diabetes for 40 years just yesterday I woke up on the kitchen floor and could not move for over an hour. I was unconcious for about 5 hours . These episodes are not new to me but this is the first time I was alone. My question is this was I unconcious or was I in a coma. I am so scared one day my husband will come home from work and find me dead. This is truly frightening and I fell soooooo tired now I can not stay awake. Any input would be good. God bless

Howdy Lexie
I am sorry that has happened to you.
I am wondering if it was epilepsy or some other problem? Like Elrond mentioned below has a history of diabetes seizures. I myself have had a period of drinfting in and out of consciousness as I lay on my bedroom floor for a period of 5 or 6 days.

So I wonder if you have been diagnosed for epilepsy by a Dr?

It is frightening for you, I am sure. If you can keep from hitting your head when you fall it would be good. Have you taken to wearing some kind of helmet when you are alone like that? If it happens often, you might wish to have someone with you most or all of the time your husband is not there. Here in Las Vegas there are Adult Day care centers (one is close to the apt complex in which I live) Perhaps something like that could be useful to you if you are concerned for your safety

Praying for safer days for you

Turtle, I don't have epilepsy but I do have a history of diabetic seizures that look a whole lot like epileptic seizures. Be very sure to keep your sugar from getting too low. My seizures were triggered when my sugar fell below 70. I'm on a better medication now and haven't had a seizure in nearly 3 years but the two conditions may be related.

I had wondered where you were since I hadn't seen your name recently. I hope things get better for you real soon. Have a Happy Halloween:).

Oh Turtle, I am sorry you are having issues. Is there something in the new room you think might be triggering the episodes? Something different from the place you moved? Hang in there. S2
