Where on Earth does anyone find GOOD low carb bread? I'm not a big bread eater, but I do occasionally want a sandwich, and want to follow the rules. Can anyone direct me?

Try to eliminate bread from your diet. Instead of craving a sandwich with deli meats. Try a Chef's Salad. This way you will avoid all the carbs.

I live alone, and my doctor has not been good about telling any thing except that I have diabeties, so every I have learned has been on my own, I take no meds and have been doing well, with just watching what I eat, so I am grateful that I found this site,
I could live on Sandwiches, so I found some flat bread, in the deli section at Wal-mart,
there are six to a package, multi grain, and very good, the Name of the brand is Sigiture Flatbread, Multigrain Sandwich flats. colories per gram, fat 9, carbs 4 and protein 4,
there is also another brand in the bakery section, with about the same indredents.
I really like these

I hear Low-Carb Julian Bakery Smart Carb Bread #1 is a really good bread, but you have to order it online. 12 g of fiber, 12 g of protein and 1 g net carbs.

I have found a bread called Healthy Life. It comes it three flavors, flaxseed with omega-3,whole wheat, and white. The flaxseed is 100% whole wheat, whole grain bread and it has only 9 carbs per slice, 40 calories and and 3 grams fiber; making it only 6 net carbs per slice. The brand is made by Lewis Bakeries. Their general office is located in Evansville, Indiana. They have a website: healthybread.com.
Hope this helps.

I make my sandwiches on a cheese slice!

Take a slice of Kraft American Cheese (must be the regular, not low fat or skim) and place it on a piece of parchment paper on a microwave safe plate. Pop it in the microwave on high for one minute (it will start to puff up and turn golden brown). Take it out of the microwave and let it cool for 5 minutes or so to firm up. You can use two to make a full sandwich, but I usually eat mine open faced.

Never thought about trying cheese this way. lol Have switched from having sandwiches to lettuce wraps myself. Anything you can put between 2 slices of bread can usually be rolled up into a lettuce wrap and be a lot heathier. (anything except PB&J, of which I'm not a great fan of anyways!)

I know what you mean about peanut butter. I mean I'll eat it if there is nothing else around, but I don't like the taste. As well, like yourself, the lettuce wrap for me is better then bread. I find it refreshing with the crunch.

I need to write all these brands down so I can see if my commissary or walmart carries them. Thanks to everyone who posted!

Sara Lee has a low carb bread. One slice is 9 carbs, so two slices for a sandwich is 18 carbs.. It comes in wheat, white and Multi-grain. Sorry that I don't remember it's rightful name, just that it is made by Sara Lee. We get it at the bread store, two loafs for $1.88. Day old bread we just stick in the freezer and pull out a loaf when needed and it taste fine.

There's a bread made by Nature's Own that's called Wheat'n Fiber. It has 9 grams of carbs per slice. There are no artrificial preservatives, colors, flavors or high fructose corn syrup. It says on the packaging that it's formulated for use in carbohydrate controlled diets. Full size loaf and slices. Tastes good and doesn't spike my BS. I live in Florida and you can purchase it at any grocery store or Super Walmart.

Ravenstyx 2009-10-10 20:50:42 -0500 Report

Nature's Own also makes a healthy white wheat bread that has 18g of carbs per 2 slices and they also have hot dog and hamburger buns that have around 14 grams per bun. I don't like the texture of wheat bread and where I live, most of the brands available to me have a lot more carbs than the white wheat breads.

All of the rye breads are low on the glycemic index. Squaw bread and pumpernickel (dark rye without the seeds) is rated a four and won't raise your blood sugar. The whole wheat various depending on the producer. The GI ranges from 40-60 and for me it raises my blood sugar so I don't eat wheat bread anymore. It really depends on the individual in all earnest when it comes to blood glucose rising and falling.

I agree with Blue Moon. A few years ago low carb bread had a minimal effect on my BS. Currently, any kind of bread increases my BS substantially! I am a bread lover, but I simply don't eat it anymore, and it's soooo difficult!

I use Pepperidge Farms Deli floats in 7 grain. They are smaller than regular bread but very good with only 100 calories per roll and 19 g of carbs but have 5 g of fiber so that brings the carbs down to 14. I really like them.

I have almost given up on bread! I rarely find a loaf that is worth the carbs. I use wraps! Sam's has a huge pack of whole wheat wraps that has low carb count. It has much less effect on my sugar. I can make all sorts of sandwiches with it now. Even put sf jelly and peanut butter on it, and stick it in the toaster oven for a treat

I've found that sourdough bread hjas lower carbs then most standard loaves.
For those of you who live here in Ontario or elsewher there are Sobeys stores, they have their own brand "Oir Complments" whole grain breads-2 types-that are 10g per slice. It's very good and all that i use these days. The packing is pale blue so look for that.
