I never had the endoscopy, but I did have the colonoscopy. It was not painful physically, just mentally. I often wonder what is appealing in careers such as urologist, and gynocologist!!!!!

liz2857 2008-07-07 13:01:52 -0500 Report

you are in my thoughts, don't be scared,it'll be over and done with before you know it,try to keep your thoughts positive and you will be fine

Ginetteb 2008-07-07 13:05:03 -0500 Report

Melissa, stop fretting. The procedure is not painful. I may not be like going to Dairy Queen, but hey, it won't hurt. To worry about things to come is like paying the toll before getting to the booth. So, we all expect you to come back on Thursday or even on Wednesday afternoon and tell us that you're OK, that you worried for nothing and that you are your own self again. STOP WORRYING. You're working youself up for nothing. Just remember that you have a whole bunch of people praying for you and cheering for you. We are all in your corner encouraging you. Ginette

You need to take care of yourself and stop worrying. Everything will be fine during the procedure. Know that lots of us here are thinking of you and will be praying for you on Wen and will be waiting to read your post saying… you guys were right - it was no big deal !!

dolphin_dreamer1706 2008-07-09 11:41:47 -0500 Report

i guess i cant say you guys were right because the doctor cancelled on me. i guess he was sick. I am not sure when I am getting but i will surely let you guys know also i want to thanx you all for the prayers anyways!

Dancehawk 2008-07-09 13:40:49 -0500 Report

ohh no!
let us know when you are to go in, and remember to breath.
There is a very nasty cold going around that might be why he cancelled.

Don't let it ruin your whole day! Look at it this way, it's only a couple of hours, so you still have 22 hours left to have a good time. Treat yourself to a good lunch or buy some fancy underwear!

Hang in there girl friend. I think I am old enough to tell you you cannot change anything by worrying. My mom was such a worrier I told her one day, to sit under the desk and just worry all day. Then the next day she'd be all worried out. :-D Seriously though, everyone on this site is a friend and friends give you the support you need. Your friends are telling you of their experiences…so believe 'em! No one will tell you endo tests are fun :-o but they are among the safest tests you can take. Been there done that. So you'll become an expert ;-)like the rest of your friends. As John said, you don't want to be put into deep sleep…it takes too long to wake up. With the modern anesthetics they put you under deep enough so you feel no pain, but light enough that as soon as you wake up you are ready to get out of there! We'll mark our calendars so we will be sure to pray for you.

Glad you made it through ok! The nurse actually gave me a color picture of the inside of my husband's colon. I threatened to put it on our Christmas cards that year.

Melissa -
Let us know when you will be having the endo so we can say a prayer and keep good thoughts for you !

take care and know this is a very positive and encouraging website.

Lots of friends here

Melissa, Not a thing to worry about. you won't feel anything that is going to hurt you. I prefer this type rather than being "knocked out" completely as I have a tough time coming back out of those deep sleeps…LOL
You will be fine and in all our thoughts and prayers.

bluerose2 2008-07-04 14:23:18 -0500 Report

Even though you won't be put out all the way, you won't feel a thing. I had an Endoscopy not long ago and the last thing I remember is that the dr said open your mouth, he sprayed some numbing stuff in my mouth and then it was all over before I knew it !! They will give you something in an IV that will put you in like a twilight sleep. Believe me you will be just fine !

DiabetesDiva 2008-07-04 17:20:10 -0500 Report

My husband had the colonoscopy, but not the endo. He was given something that calmed him and made him sleepy.
He said there was no pain at all. He had to fast for 24 hours, so I packed a picnic lunch for him to eat when it was over. I think the food helped him a great deal cuz it was so yummy (fresh turkey sandwich and fresh strawberries).
Good luck!
