I just found a web site that has fashoinable medical ID bracelets. Sad part is I was planning on doing it my self and just never did. Seems there was always something else to do :) I still may make some just for the fun of it!

I jumped on the bandwagon and made my first bracelet.

I took the chain off of my drug store bracelet and changed it to a bead/leather strap with hooks. I can now change the strap part easily when I make new ones. I have another that is currently in the process of being made that is all beads. I guess I found a new hobby!

I am also planning on doing the same thing for a friend that is in blood thinners. She REFUSES to wear a medical ID because they are ugly. She is a young mother who a stroke and just a bit in denial ….

I got the charm bracelot very reasonable from ebay. Just type in medical and go to jewely it will take you there. I ordered mine from jjdakota868p, and they have everthing from dog tags to key rings. The one i got says diabetic on insulin, it was around $7.00, then I added my own silver pieces to it. They have them for heart stints , lap band, just all kinds.

You can make them as big or small as you want if you have the bracelots that you attach each piece to, I can't remember what they are called at this moment, but they are very popular.

I use the MedicAlertFoundation in CA. You can get any sort of bracelet or Necklace and have an ID card w/ ALL of your medical info on it and you can update your info on your card for FREE as much as needed. There is a membership cost per year. I cannot remember how much but I will soon find out and put it here.

This is the best place I have been associated with. They are professionals and keep track of you…kind of.

so what is the common opinion? I'm type 2, and don't generally have 'lows' so do you think it's necessary for me to have an ID stating that I'm type 2? My hubby wants me to get one, so I've looked at them, but I guess I don't see the point…

I am type 2 and wear one most of the time. I am on glimepiride which tends to cause lows and have experienced some as recently as yesterday. Most of the time I am ok but as a busy mom but you never know.

Actually, the ID I am wearing now is a drug store on that my 11 year old was able to get on where if fits nicely. I we were leaving on a 2 ½ week driving trip (just the kids and I) and I wanted to make sure that if anything happened they knew I was diabetic. Once I got a bracelet to fit I just did not take it off.

You have all inspired me to learn, figure out how to make jewelry!!!!!

Do it Girl! It might be just what it takes. Your thinking of the younger crowd. I'm old so I want to wear something hip (LOL)

I've actually been thinking about this lately. Something simple, maybe just Diabetic scripted on my wrist. It'd be under my watchband most of the time anyways. Been having too many 'low' episodes lately that it has me thinking.

I wear an ID around my neck. Now if I could get the machines that makes the dog tags put on the Diabetes emblem on one of their tags. that is where I would get them made.
Have a few made in different colors for different outings.
