I am constantly sick, I feel tired a lot of the time and I am on antibotics more then not. I was wondering does anyone else go through this? Is there something that I can do that will help me not to be so easy to get sick?

Sorry that you are sick alot but understand what you are going thru. I'm sick alot, had 4 sinus infections this year. Thought I had another one this past week but turned out negative. Like you am tired constantly and have no energy. I do try to walk 4 or 5 times a week but would not if it were not for my sister. She pushes me and I am so grateful for her interest and concern for me. Let everyone know if you have any progress with this. Hugs because everyone needs one now and then.

I've been constantly exhausted for three years, and finally, in the past month, was diagnosed with Celiac Disease, which is very common among diabetics and is under-diagnosed among the general population. You could Google Celiac Symptoms to see if any of them match for you. We finally caught mine when my anemia did not respond to iron supplements. But the symptoms vary hugely from person to person. Could be a long shot, but worth checking out. Since I quit eating wheat, barley and rye gluten, my energy levels have rebounded hugely and I can finally keep up with my 3 & 5 year old children!

Thank you crashnot, I will look this up on the internet and see if I think it might be my problem. I am happy you are doing better.

Thanks! Oh, another thing. Have your vitamin D checked. Most north Americans are deficient by mid-winter, and if you are not getting your skin exposed to the sun at least I think it's 3 hours a week, you're probably deficient all year. D is a huge part of our immune system support, and since going on heavy doses (5,000 mg/day) I get a sniffle while my husband is hacking up a lung. Usually the other way around for us!

Thanks crashnot, I looked up the celtic symptoms and I believe this is a possibilty. I will have to talk to my dr.It is also possible I am deficent in the vitamon area. Thank you so much.

You might go to:

http://www.lillydiabetes.com/content/small-st...

and get the free DVD video SMALLSTEPS TO MANAGING YOUR DIABETES. It isn't particularly complex but does give you a few easily implemented ideas and the price (Free) is right. All of which assumes you have the capability of playing a DVD.

I, too, have hypothyroidism. I've had it forever and take a huge dose of desicated thyroid daily. The synthetics don't work for me. So far I have not noticed that it has had any particular effect on my diabetes either good or bad.

I wish you well.
May you have God's best blessings.

Thank you , I can play DVD's and I will send for this. I don't know if the thyroid plays a part in my diabetes but i wonder if it makes me feel bad sometimes. I do notice that my mind is foggy a lot of times and I do not know if it is the thyroid meds or diabetes.

This year I had a series of sinus infections (a common problem for me), then bronchitis and then pneumonia. I do not smoke and my AiC are normal. I had been depressed (on med that are working) and my doc told me that affects my immune system. I've had all the blood work done. I believe some of us just have weaker immune systems. I do use a c=pap machine too. The neilmed sinus rinse helps me the most. Hang in there, listen to your body and be gentle with yourself.

How are your sugars lately? The more I have them under control the less I get sick. Do you take a multi-vitamin and get extra vitamin C.

Have checked in your community to see if there are free classes on diabetes? I have been to a few and they are very helpful. Also www.dlife.com has a lot of good information as well as recipes.
I was nauseous quite often when I first started taking my medication. But I was told this was because my body was used to bs of 300 and sometimes higher. It took a few weeks for my body to get used to having a normal bs. Honestly I gave up on my meds a few times because of sick I was. I finally made a commitment to stick with the medications until my body got used to the right level of BS. Took a little while but it was worth it.
I'm sorry you don't feel well. I hope you find a solution soon.

I have not seen any free classes in my community for diabetic education, I would like to be able to have some help on getting to know all that I should. I havbe read books, and some stuff online but it seems so complicated. Thank you.
