Would some one want to adopt me as an older sister or (gasp) mom? I want to retire and need medical insurance. I don't qualify for Medicare for 5 1/2 years…don't qualify for disability either.

Sadly, I can't put my sister on our medical insurance… believe me, my husband and I looked into this when she moved in with us. She has Lupus and either bipolar disorder or clinical depression.

I am so frustrated with trying to get her medical help… now I hear that the government is talking about anyone without health insurance will be fined or be put in jail. Of course I realize that this is mostly rumors and heresay, but the idea of it scares the hell out of me.

My sister has NO income and if something like this goes into effect it will only put people like her or in similiar situations in a very bad place. I really hope that they do not mandate health insurance the way they mandated car insurance. Perhaps if they would allow someone to put anyone living in their household on their health insurance it might help.

Sorry to go on like this…I find your and my sister's circumstances beyond frustrating. It's down right depressing.

Judi, would your sister qualify for Medicaid or SSI or other such medical care? What about a "free clinic" like they had in LA when I lived there?

I've seen Ads for Walgreen's and CVS and their having "minute clinics" or some such thing. Would something like that help your sister? Please look into it. I appreciate your concern. And, I cannot see how the government can mandate health insurance of those with no income…please don't stress over what sounds like rumor. I thought what they are trying to do is get National health insurance for everyone paid for by taxes and government, not by individuals who have no way to pay for it.

My post stems from my job and the FEAR that I might lose it. I am very unhappy by the stress they put all of us under. I never realized i would open this can of worms. I only hope one of these suggestions helps your sister…or maybe someone else will come up with one.

I hope you sister gets the help she needs and that I might be a part in finding it for you and her. Hugs

I also have no insuarnce but would love to adopt you as a sister. I am so sorry to hear of all the problems so many face without insurance but I also face them, it's really hard having these medical conditions that need regular dr visits and testing and all that goes with it and with no insurance, a lot of times the hospitals want a big down payment before they will do the testing. I have found a medical center that bases your dr visits on your income, which helps me. Maybe there is one in your community. Call your local Department of Social Services and ask if they have something that helps with dr.visits based on income. I hope this helps.

I can't make her apply for SSI.

I've tried everything I can think of and have had no luck. New Mexico doesn't seem to have charity hosiptals or free clinics like Louisiana where she came from.

Thanks though :)

Judi, could you fill out the form for her so all she has to do is sign it. Maybe because of how she is feeling, filling out the form is just too much for her. Couldn't hurt, could it? Do the Walgreen's and CVS's in NM have those "clinic's" in them? Think they are staffed by nurse practitioners. I have a friend in NM, I can send her an email to ask, altho, it may take awhile for an answer as her daughter-in-law has her computer.

Take care…Hugs

JUDI…my friend said that probably the Catholic Church can help, and she will look for more. She was living outside of ABQ and now lives in Ramah. Hope this helps…Hugs

I would love to adopt you as a sister, I can not help either though with the insurance situation. But I am here to talk to!! Sheila

Hi Sheila. This was tongue in cheek, but, you never know if there is someone out there with more than than they know what to do with and want to pay for medical for a nice stranger! I appreciate everyone taking this so seriously. I think I was really looking for suggestions on insurance…I am not happy where I work, and the majority of us worry every day if it will be our last. I am almost to the point where if I am fired, Cobra will last almost til Medicare…but will Medicare still be there?

Chances are any medical insurance wouldn't cover a sister or parent. They are pretty much only spouse or child.

Yeah, KD, but if someone who is rich wanted to help out… :) or needed a mom… :) How are you doing? Tell me about your baby…

I would love to adopt you as a sister. I have no medical that can help you but I think we could have a blast just growing together. We are already friends.

Take good care of you,

Hey, you guys…I appreciate that you would even consider it! Maybe someone will show up yet. And turtle, maybe we could get Pat to move in with us. She could keep us on our toes! Hugs to all.
