My daughter starts college this month and the distance she has to walk is scary, so many what if questions? Low sugars, High sugars how to make sure she is safe, what to have on you so others know your diabetic just in case, how to inform her teachers… wow so many where do I begin? Thanks for any help you can give.

Also, does she wear one of the medic bracelets? or dog tags? You can list her name, her condition and the type meds she is on and an emergency number. In addition, she should carry something in her wallet that EMTs or physicians would look for in case of an emergency.

When you say she has long walks, do you mean on campus? If so, how would she feel about having a bicycle to get around on campus? This would be great exercise as well as a faster mode of travel. Lots of people on the campus where I worked use bikes because the campus is so large.

Talk with the Dean of students and see what he/she has to offer. If she has a room mate make sure know what to do for your daughter. Also if she is in a dorm. make sure her RA knows how to help. After offering the help you can, let go and Let God handle the rest.
