I was approved to move to assisted living and to have copes today. I am going to go look at a place next week and I hope to move before next month.

My husband was the chaplain of the Jewish Home for the Aging whichis an assisted living facility. The worst part is the dining room. Even though it says that you are a Diabetic, they still give you exactly what everyone else has. And unless you police yourself, you will have constant highs and lows and get depressed and stressed. So make up a list of what you can and want to eat and give it to the dietician and keep a clear copy for yourself at your dining room table so that there is no mistake about what you can eat. Each week every resident was given a menu to check and make adjustments. If you con't do it for yourself, it won't get done.

Valentine Lady is in a similar situation in her nursing home. The food is not always diabetes friendly. So she has to police herself.

Unfortunately there are times she just has to suck it up and eat some higher carb fare or she wouldn't be able to eat anything. I had sent her some Adkins snack bars to tide her over in such cases.

Fortunately she had been elected as the resident representative so she can go to the food service chief and also the facility administrator to bring residents' complaints and concerns to them.

Don't know how much good it does but there does seem to be changes after she brings concerns to them.

That's great.I know people in asst. living that are happy. I might have to get my elderly mother moved into one in the future, but right now she is ok. Let me know how it goes.
