I recently bought Flaxseed to be told by someone diabetics cannot take them. They seem to have alot of good benefits. I would love to get off my Diabex XR as they make me sick.

My Dr has told me too take them but not for my diabetes…but to see if it would help my chol levels. So i think they are alright to take. Don't think the Dr would let me take them if they weren't. Good Luck. =-D

I don't know why a diabetic couldn't take them but I also don't know why they would help with diabetes. I like flax (never had capsules though, just the seeds in various forms), I think it has some good benefits to cholesterol and general well being but I don't think it will help with blood sugar one bit. It certainly won't help get of your medication (which is metformin xr but a brand version) though.

If you want to get off the meds then your diet and exercise need to be fully optimized. What does your typical meal involve and what is your exercise routine like?

I walk 35mins 5 days per week and eat 5 small meals aday. Mainly fresh fruit, salads and chicken/fish. If you have any other info it would be appreciated.

I don't know about the capsules but flax seed is good because of the fiber it adds and that in turn slows the absorption of carbs into the blood stream. That is why fiber is so important
