I've just had my first complete lab workup since coming off my diabetes med. I'm very pleased with the overall results. Of course, surgery last summer has also had a positive effect on things. So, A1c, 6.4 without any diabetes meds. Not what I hoped, but acceptable to me. Hope my Dr agrees. I cut the statin dose in half and have had a small improvement in the lipids. My kidney function has improved to 62, first time that high outside of the hospital since dx. Even the issues with the cbc are almost normal for the first time in at least 4 years, meaning, I think, that whatever inflammation has been ongoing for all this time is also improved. I'm Healthy! Yay! Now to work on keeping the diabetes where it is currently, or better. Still searching out good low carb recipes for baked goods, but without wheat flour, it takes some getting used to. Next labs should be very interesting as they will be really "clean", meaning no diabetes med in the system. (It took a month to clear the Bydureon out so I feel that was still a factor this time)

The not so good news is that I've gained weight since coming off the Bydureon. I think it's stabilized now, but time will tell. If the weight gain continues, I will go back on the meds. Of course, by then the damage is already done and I will be stuck AGAIN! My Dr was very happy with everything but the weight gain. My fbg continues to fluctuate anywhere from 100 to mid 120. I'm trying to really focus on protein and my body seems to crave it now more than the carbs. Not that I've given up carbs. My Dr agrees with me that I will always be fighting a battle with weight, I'm going to be doing a lot of baking this year, but it will be given away as gifts. For myself, I'll still be trying recipes with alternate ingredients, so if anyone has a recommendation, let me know. Going to try to keep thee holiday indulgences to a minimum except for the big day when I'm with family.
