Wednesday I saw my primary care dr and got a shingles dx. Thursday I had a follow up with the general surgeon and was feeling good, still having a little nausea from what I thought was post surgery meds. As I finished my day, I was feeling progressively worse and just wanted to go home and get in bed. I thought I had just been a little too active over the last few days. I started having really bad spasms in my stomach, bad enough to also cause some serious back pain. Since I know just enough to be dangerous, all sorts of things ran through my mind. I waited (only about an hour) to see if it would resolve on its own. It did not, so I called my daughter to take me to the ER. BIG mistake. I should have called for an ambulance. Then I wouldn't have spent 2 1/2 hours in the waiting room before being seen. Thank goodness for the shot of morphine! Then off for a CT scan. Scar tissue from one of my previous surgeries attached to my small intestine and caused a blockage. Because of my recent surgery, Santa Rosa didn't want to treat me so I was transferred to SAMMC by ambulance. By now it is past 1:00 am, don't know when I arrived at SAMMC, didn't especially care. Acquired a naso-gastric tube along the way, ugh, had several exrays, one with a dose of gastrogadolinium dye (didn't know they did that for exrays). Lucky for me, those measures did the job and I only spent 2 days in the hospital, no further surgery needed. The tube came out after about 24 hours, I was able to eat and they sent me home last night. Very tired, but happy to be in my own bed again. Just in time to get all my bills paid! Going to take it easy today.
