I dont quilt but I have my mothers quilt that my Grand Mother made for my mom and dad for their wedding. It was all hand stiched with persice x's. My mother can still tell me that this piece came from a blouse she had as a teenager. that piece came from a dress her cousin had. that part came from some other piece of clothing. . My mom at one time took her wedding dress and cut it to make a formal dress. She then took a part of her wedding dress and addeded it to the quilt. It was always my favorite as a child and my mom promised it to me when she passed away. Well, she gave it to me on my wedding day. My bother one day asked for it and my mom had to tell him that it was already promised to me. So she made him one in the same style. My older sister has one from my grandmother. Since there were 3 of them, and 4 of us kids, Mom had to make another for my sister, and then the grand kids saw them, Mom has now made 5 of them all in the same style of the ones my grandmother made long ago. It doesnt have monetary value but I wouldnt sell it for any price.

I love to quilt! I haven't made as many as I would like as the machine I have now is too small to do much.I loaned my nice Hasqvarna to a friend so she could make a layette for her son who is now 8 and never got it back. I used to sew them all by hand and add on tatted lace edges but the arthritis has gotten so bad the stitches aren't as straight as I would like. I am currenly working on a mini-quilt for my neice for christmas. She wants one for her favorite baby doll.

I also do another quilting project for the kids in my family. I take some of their baby clothes, receiving blankets etc. and piece them together like a quilt into a simple patchwork. Then instead of lining and edging it I use a pattern for a teddy bear and cut out the simple shape, you can find different ones at the fabric store, then stuff it with fiberfill and put their name on either the ear or paw. I usually put in a little note when I'm stuffing it that has their name and birthday on it or even a little picture. My grandmother has a friend who gave me the first one and it's actually really simple and a great keepsake. My oldest neice is 12 and still sleeps with hers.

Took some pics of the one my grandma's friend made for me. The neice's wouldn't let up on theirs so I could show you my own work. The pics are on my profile, front and back. As I said when I make them I usually add their name on the ear or foot and put a little something inside…stole the idea from build a bear. The clothes on the one in the pics are from the dress I wore to my first day of kindergarten along with the eyelet from my favorite slip I wore for christmas and holidays. I used to have the pic of me wearing the dress but my grandma stole it to give to the seamstress and hasn't returned it yet. As you can see it's a really cute simple project and you can use any fabric. The one I made for my oldest neice is made from her receiving blankets with lace from her confirmation dress.

I never learned how to quilt, but I have a quilt that my grandmother made. It is so special to me. It brings back fond memories of her and keeps her close to me.
